Multi-Dial Watches

1 Plus 1 Timepiece Ltd sources movements from Switzerland and Japan to make its timepieces,
including these chronograph models with metal bracelets or leather straps (front).

MOVEMENTS available for multi-dial watches bring a variety of useful functions. Match them with designs and styles from creative manufacturers in Hong Kong and they become watches suitable for anyone from the lap-timing sportsman through to the time-conscious businesswoman.

Recognizing the potential in this versatility is 1 Plus 1 Timepiece Ltd. Set up in 2000 to cover a niche market, the company is a subsidiary of Sun Kai Watch Co Ltd. "We needed a line of more elegant designs suitable for all occasions from the sporty to the formal, and this is what 1 Plus 1 does," says general manager Candy Wong.

The multi-dial watch range comprises all chronographs, with separate dials for seconds, minutes and hours. Movements are from Switzerland and Japan, while stainless steel cases are waterproof to 50ATM.

1 Plus 1 Timepiece emphasizes customer service and deals promptly with enquiries. "We are also strong at the sampling stage, and we can provide a sample within one week. We offer clients full support from design to prototype," says Wong.

The company has a 20,000-square-foot factory in Dongguan on the Chinese mainland employing 100 workers and producing 100,000 watches per month. Minimum orders are for 500 pieces per model for delivery 70 days after order confirmation. Prices are available on request.

The customer also comes in for special treatment at Luckotime Industries Ltd, as assistant product manager Aileen Ng explains. "We are special because our whole operation is in Hong Kong. Buyers know that we can control every stage of the production process."

She says Luckotime employs just 20 people yet produces 20,000 watches each month. "We can meet orders for as few as 100 pieces and we have a fast response time for enquiries," she says.

Multi-dial models are all chronographs designed for sporting or formal occasions. Styles vary according to customer requirements. "The functions of the various dials depend on the movements we use," says Ng. The best choice might be a Swiss-made ETA movement or a Japanese-made Miyota movement.

Ng says most customers prefer the European style and frequently choose the ETA movement, well suited to the mid- to high-range market. "We house the products in quality stainless steel cases, waterproof to 10ATM, and add leather straps," she says.

Prices, delivery times and minimum order requirements all depend on the specifications from the customer. "Our watches, rather like clothes, are tailor-made," she smiles.

Time Box And Concepts, established in 2001, specializes in sports watches. The range includes three multi-dial models.

Models Utopia and Concerto are at the high-end of the range, and come with stainless steel cases, Swiss-built movements and luminous Swiss-made hands. Both have the 1/10-second-chronograph function and are water resistant to 10ATM. Utopia has a leather strap especially shaped to fit the wrist, while the curved Concerto band is in stainless steel.

Both models come with optional extras such as a diamond setting on the bezel or an anti-reflective coating on the case.

Model 401.532 has a Seiko movement housed in an alloy case, a leather strap and is water resistant to 3ATM. It also features the 1/10-second-chronograph function.

Time Box And Concept's ISO 9001-certified factory, in Shenzhen on the Chinese mainland, employs 200 workers. Minimum order for Concerto and Utopia is 25 pieces. It is 500 pieces for model 401.532. Delivery is 45 days from order confirmation. Prices are available on request.

Sogo Watch Mfy Ltd, an experienced manufacturer of timepieces since 1995, exports mainly to Europe and the US.

Nancy Yeung of the marketing department says, "Our designs have three main features: the colour of the dial and the bands are matched, all the dials are functional, and all are designed to be both sporty and fashionable."

This company's watches, aimed mainly at young adults, range from the low- to high-end of the market and incorporate a variety of colours and patterns to suit different fashions.

In the multi-dial series, each design includes a selection of features such as date, day, 24-hour clock and chronograph functions. All have stainless steel cases and leather straps, and are water resistant to 5ATM. Movements come from Japan.

The company operates a 5,000-square-metre factory in Shenzen on the Chinese mainland, where 500 workers assemble movements and other components sourced from South Korea and the mainland.

Prices for the multi-dial range vary from US$10.50 for model S1166G to US$19.50 for model S1175G. All prices are FOB Hong Kong. Minimum order is 50 pieces, with smaller quantities by special arrangement. Delivery is 20 days from order confirmation.
