Boxes To Watch

Wing Shing Industrial Development Co Ltd

Wing Shing Industrial Development Ltd offers a full range of innovative and high-quality watch boxes to the tune of 2.5 million units per month.

INNOVATIVE packaging can make the difference between success and failure for any new-model watch. Successful packaging enhances value and promotes a brand. Wing Shing Industrial Development Co Ltd offers diverse packaging for many styles.

Founded in 1978, the company makes high-quality presentation boxes, most often using plastic or paper. "Watch presentation boxes are our specialty and account for 80% of total production," says assistant marketing manager Philip Lau.

Wing Shing's main markets are Europe, Hong Kong, Australia and the US. "We are flexible and try to meet all our customers' design and cost needs, whether they require exclusive, high-end classic packaging or large-volume, low-cost packaging with high visual impact," Lau says.

Efficiency and quality are the company's foundations for success. Ten years ago, Wing Shing opened its own factory in Shenzhen on the Chinese mainland to gain control over all stages of production. The factory has strong in-house facilities, 300 workers and a team of highly qualified technicians and engineers.

"We have our own silk-printing, tooling and engineering departments, allowing us to handle all moulds and tooling ourselves. In-house departments ensure quicker turnaround and reduce waste, which helps cost control," Lau says.

"Our highly effective quality control team gives us an extra advantage. One QC (team member) is assigned to each department. We closely monitor quality from the very start."

More than 2.5 million watch boxes per month emerge in numerous shapes, styles and materials.

Wing Shing serves well-known brands and is adept at designing packaging for sports-style watches or models pitched at young consumers.

"We have a very creative designer who produces our own designs and works closely with customers on OEM projects. We aim to come up with new designs every two months, quickly promote them to customers and post them on the Internet," Lau adds.

New ideas arrive from many sources, but the influence of fashion on timepieces means the packaging must be equally trendy and interesting. "We aim to make remarkable packaging," Lau says.

For children's watches, that can mean silk-printed cartoon characters. Trendy styles may feature unusually shaped cases and fashionable colour schemes that make for eye-catching displays.

"Our most innovative designs feature smooth curved lines. We wanted a break from the flat, rectangular boxes dominant in trendy sports-watch packaging," says Lau.

This new range of plastic packaging has round, elliptical, egg-shaped and semi-circular boxes with transparent lids and solid-colour or semi-transparent bases. Model W-68 is an appealing, neat and circular box with space for various bracelets. The box can be produced with a tag or stand for display purposes.

Lau says Wing Shing's ongoing focus on efficiency, quality and design will ensure continued success.
