Gold Wo Melamine Product Co Ltd's floral patterned trays and plates add a touch of class to the dining table
The choice of tableware lends an important accent to the dining experience. Whether seeking striking designs to set the mood or functional styles for easy dining, Hong Kong manufacturers offer high quality, durable and attractive designs to meet clients' needs worldwide.
Gold Wo Melamine Product Co Ltd specialises in the production of melamine tableware, a synthetic material with a similar feel and appearance to ceramic. "Melamine can be hard to break, depending on its weight and thickness, and is normally cheaper than ceramic for mid to high-end products," says marketing manager Doris Lee. "It is quite popular for children's tableware and does not show burn marks when used as ashtrays."
The company mainly produces dinnerware and serving ware, but is expanding the production of premium products such as ashtrays, clocks, and coasters. These can be made to match the more traditional offerings allowing customers to expand their product range.
Customised designs and packaging are available, and current customers include such well-known names as Coca Cola, Disney and Nestl?
All Gold Wo's products are manufactured at its 13,800-square-metre factory in Dongguan on the Chinese mainland, which employs approximately 600 workers. Minimum order size is 5,000 pieces with delivery time approximately 30-45 days after sample approval. Prices are negotiable.
Another company also branching out is Topchoice Industries Ltd, which started in 1990 producing porcelain dinnerware. Although this is still its main strength, the company also manufactures giftware, cutlery, candleholders and glassware at its factory in Shenzhen on the mainland.
"Our strength is in design and packaging," says senior marketing executive Brian Leung. "Rather than just selling products, we offer a complete tabletop concept by expanding successful dinnerware patterns to a broader range of giftware, cutlery and other items."
Topchoice Industries Ltd tailors its products to meet the diverse dining customs of customers worldwide
Topchoice also differentiates itself by tailoring its products to accommodate the diverse dining customs of its clients around the world. Its products are sold globally under its Multiple Choice brand name and the company's minimum order size is a single TEU.
Wing Tai Ming Kee Co Ltd has successfully transformed itself from a producer of dishes for Hong Kong restaurants to an export manufacturer of porcelain and stoneware dinner sets and mugs.
The company has its own designer and can provide fully customised products to its customers all over the world. Manager Jim Wing Fung reports, "We have many new designs each season with new square and triangular dinner sets planned for this year."
Wing Tai Ming Kee markets its own products under the Jim's brand name, although OEM orders are also accepted. With offices in Hong Kong and in Guangxi on the mainland, Wing Tai Ming Kee's factory employs more than 7,000 workers.
Production capacity is approximately 30 containers a month and the minimum order size is one TEU. Delivery takes approximately 45 days once the order is confirmed and prices are negotiable.
Kin Hip Metal & Plastic Fty Ltd is committed to style and design. Started in 1949, this leading manufacturer of stainless steel kitchenware, insulated tableware and small home electric appliances has full design capability, which enables it to capitalise on new product ideas.
"We believe in a blend of form and function - we want both our industrial and home-use products to look good and be user-friendly," says marketing director Andy Sun.
He believes Kin Hip's products tend to be more fashionable with a contemporary feel. "We are strong in design," Sun maintains. "The customer only needs to provide us with an idea and we take it and develop different concepts. That it is our most competitive edge in the sea of Chinese manufacturers."
The company's products are widely known under its Kinox and Connoisserve brand names. "As much as we promote our own brands, we also do OEM and have been doing so for some time," Sun emphasises.
In tribute to its design excellence, Kin Hip won the Consumer Product Design Award from the Federation of Hong Kong Industries in 1997. In addition, the company received ISO 9001 certification in 2001.
Kin Hip uses 18/10 stainless steel sourced from Japan and Germany for most of its metal products and plastic materials mainly from Japan and the US.
The company's factory in Shenzhen on the mainland employs 1,000 workers. A minimum order is one TEU and delivery time is typically 30 days. FOB Hong Kong prices for its Insulated Thermal Server, double wall cafeti蓤e, and coffee decanter range from US$6-9.
