Zoom In For Versatility
|More Charm Ltd's forte lies in its variety of camera designs and functions|
Behind the camera lens there is always a real life experience to narrate and to better capture memorable moments in life, cameras are becoming increasingly versatile: they are now also as reliable underwater as they are on land.
Farsighted Hong Kong manufacturer, Vastfame Camera Ltd, which exports quality cameras, optical goods and premium items, intends continuously developing new products such as underwater and four-lens motion cameras to meet different market needs.
"We will also explore the premium camera market by offering attractive packaging designs for various promotional purposes," explains sales executive Shebby Cheng.
The company is dedicated to marketing its robust, manual underwater camera, which can be reloaded for use down to 15 metres. The unit price is US$4.50 FOB Hong Kong.
"Our ISO 9001-certified production plant in Xiamen on the Chinese mainland, spanning a total area of 15,000 square metres and employing 900 workers, accepts a minimum order of 1,000 pieces. It makes deliveries within 30 days of order confirmation," Cheng says.
OEM business is currently the mainstay and the US is its major market.
Also active, and with more than 30 years in the business producing cameras, binoculars, telescopes and plastic lenses, Sunpet Industries Ltd invests consistently in R&D and new equipment.
Sunpet recently came up with an array of zoom cameras, available for about US$5 each FOB Hong Kong. For example, model 268 is a 35-60mm zoom camera with built-in flash and auto-wind that is popular with consumers in Japan and the US. The minimum order is 2,000 pieces per model.
"A key element in its appeal is the plastic," says general manager Joesph Ko. "The camera lens is made of fine quality plastic, PMMA, and of superb precision. Besides, most of the parts, including the case, are made of sturdy plastic that efficiently lowers the production cost and enables a very competitive price range."
At the same time, the company offers novelty cameras in different colours and shapes such as an airplane, a UFO and various licensed characters to lure its customers, Ko notes.
Capitalising on the company's strengths in the manufacture of a huge range of optical instruments, Sunpet will offer more middle-range, high-quality devices such as digital cameras with built-in telescopes or microscopes.
"We manufacture at our 30,000-square-metre factory in Zhongshan on the mainland, which houses more than 2,000 workers," says Ko.
He also introduces the company's rapid prototype machine that produces real-life mock-ups directly and automatically out of CAD files for functional evaluation or design presentation.
"Preliminary evaluation and functional testing can be performed by building a working mock-up. This can speed up product development lead-time and avoid potential quality problems," he explains.
A company specialising in the production of single-use cameras since 1995 is Megaluck Enterprises Ltd, which employs 300 workers at its 4,500-square-metre factory in Shenzhen on the mainland.
Single-use cameras may create waste, but Megaluck tackles the issue by using recyclable cases that are more environmentally friendly.
"Last year we started to expand our presence in the underwater camera market. The sea-shot underwater camera is one of the latest models from our in-house product design team," says marketing director Leonard Wong.
"Our waterproof single-use camera is capable of 3-6 metre depths depending on the model," he adds. "Customers may choose according to their budget."
Apart from offering more choice, Megaluck also boasts a strong mould design team. "We rank consistent quality a top priority and guarantee almost 0% critical defects," he says.
Megaluck exports to Europe, North America, the Middle East, Australia and Japan. The minimum order is 500 pieces per custom-logo pack for delivery 14-21 days from receipt of deposit and artwork film.
Sky Light Industrial Ltd also produces disposable cameras in a variety of designs and tastes.
"Increasing environmental awareness prompted us to launch our recycling programme to collect the used bodies of single-use cameras," says marketing manager Florence Tse. "This helps lower costs as most of the bodies are from Japan."
Seeing great potential in the digital camera market, Sky Light launched a series of powerful models last year. Its super mini three-in-one 300,000 pixels model, TDC-31, combines the functions of a digital still camera, a video recorder and a PC web camera.
"We also offer another digital model featuring 1.3 million pixels," she notes. "And we will soon unveil a new model with a resolution of 2.1 million pixels."
Sky Light, which accepts OEM orders, markets its own Next brand in world markets. Delivery is within 35 days of order confirmation and the minimum order is 1,000 pieces.
