Wise Unicorn Industrial Ltd offers a range of collectibles with delicate sculpturing
THE versatility of polystone/polyresin makes it an excellent material for gifts and decorative items. It can be moulded into a huge variety of shapes and produced in almost every texture and colour to imitate the likes of stone, porcelain, plastic or metal.
Doing this in quantity is Wise Unicorn Industrial Ltd, offering a range of collectible items featuring a variety of effects including marble and metal.
"The delicate sculpturing adds value to the product," says sales manager Sharon Hung. "We produce innovative designs, with more than 150 new items each month. Our major product lines are fairies, tribal and Egyptian themes."
This company's ISO 9001-certified production facilities are in the Chinese mainland's Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces and occupy a total of 188,906 square feet. Prices are available on request, while the minimum order value is US$10,000 per shipment for delivery 45-60 days after order confirmation.
Interestingly, seven-year-old Giftsmax Co is a subsidiary of an electronics manufacturer, and so electronic components frequently figure in its polystone products such as clocks and water fountains. Other, non-electronic items, include candleholders, photo frames and figurines.
"We are very flexible," says marketing supervisor Jean Yiu. "Between 50-60% of our polystone products are for OEM projects, and this is increasing."
To give an idea about prices, she says a battery-operated fountain is US$3.50-4.00 based on a minimum order of 300 pieces or 1,000-2,000 pieces for an OEM project. Delivery is 45 days after order confirmation.
According to marketing division manager Daniel Ng, Unisia Mfy focuses on products that are functional as well as decorative. Among the company's latest products is the Spring Cute Fairy series, which combines polyresin with other materials.
"Each fairy has a pair of see-through shimmer wings and some of the flowers are made of metal," says Ng. "They also have practical uses, such as jewellery boxes, plates and so on."
The company's design team places emphasis on the facial expressions of the figures and the colours, including skin tones, to make them as lifelike as possible.
Maximum unit FOB Hong Kong prices for the figurines are US$2.50-3.00 per piece. Sizes range from 2-5 inches, although special orders can be placed for larger items. Minimum order is 3,000-5,000 pieces per item, for delivery within 50 days of order confirmation.
Artistic & Creative (HK) Ltd is best known as a specialist in water globes. "In the beginning, we made plastic snow globes but after a couple of years a lot of customers asked for glass globes containing polystone," says managing director Ada Mok. Today, she adds, the company "mixes and matches" globes in plastic or glass with polystone according to customers' requirements.
"Plastic globes have remained very popular because of their cheaper prices, and are much sought after as promotional items. The larger globes also contain music boxes," she adds. Other polyresin gift items, including animal figures, are also available.
The company operates three 500-worker factories in Xiamen, Shanghai and Guangdong. Prices for globes range from about US$0.50-4.00 depending on size, which varies from 45-120mm, and a minimum order is 2,000 per item. Delivery takes 30 days for plastic globes, and 45-60 for glass.
Offering cartoon-style items for its own Zoo's World and BabyFarmland brands, wildlife and souvenir items, religious items and household products is Poly-Gift Co Ltd. "We also do a lot of OEM projects using customers' own designs," says director Gabriel Cheung.
Among the Zoo's World collection are zebra memo holders, tiger jewel boxes, giraffe photo frames, jaguar mini plates, elephant namecard holders and rhino photo frames.
"We have a strong design team," says Cheung. "We are also very strong on communication with the customer and we will respond very quickly. That's why we are able to do a lot of OEM business."
Monthly production and FOB prices vary a lot depending on the items, while a minimum order is US$5,000 for delivery 45-60 days after confirmation of an order.
With about six years' experience in the production of polystone items, Win Seng Mfg Fty Ltd offers figurines, wildlife models, photo frames, jewellery boxes, candleholders and oil burners. The company's factory is in the mainland's Fujian Province and has two production lines: one for standard items and the other for OEM projects.
"We employ between 1,000-1,500 workers depending on the season," says Joyce Cheng, sales manager. "A customer can send an email picture of the design and within two days we will email back the first draft of the moulding so the customer can inform us of any changes. For example, a figurine may need the eyes to be different or the character's smile. Depending on the changes, within three days to one week we will send a sample," she adds.
This maker does not specify a minimum order quantity. "A customer may want only 12-100 pieces to test the market, and we are happy to supply them," says Cheng. Unit prices are available on request but, as a guideline, photo frames are priced from US$0.85-0.95 while jewellery boxes are about US$0.49-0.65, FOB Xiamen, depending on size and quantity. Delivery time is 30-45 days after order confirmation.
Clearly, polystone/polyresin delights from Hong Kong are filling the seasonal order books with delectable gifts galore.
