Today's office may be completely computerised but it still requires the careful organisation of large volumes of documents, all of which have to be readily available at a moment's notice.
The best and most efficient way of handling these voluminous reams is still tried-and-true methods such as the files and folders produced by Hong Kong manufacturers.
Companies such as Kamszelei Stationery Mfy have many years' experience, which has resulted in a diverse product portfolio that meets every buyer's needs.
Kamszelei, for example, produces an array of files and folders using PP from Thailand, Korea or Japan - its catalogue even features a translucent offset-printed file depicting cartoon chickens.
"We can do any colour and any pattern," claims marketing manager Fred Lee, noting that the folder has a single-lever clip inside and can be transparent, half-transparent or solid-coloured. "The FOB Hong Kong price varies from HK$2.00-2.50 depending on the thickness."
A clear display book finished with silk-screen printing can come with 10-100 pockets depending on customer requirements, while other products include silk-screen printed, two-ring files and portable file bags.
The 18-year-old company, which has its own Kamszelei brand, sells to Japan, Malaysia and the Chinese mainland, where it runs an 8,000-square-metre, 250-worker factory in Shantou.
"We make about 200,000-300,000 files and folders of 1,000 different styles a month," Lee explains, adding that a minimum order of one carton usually translates into 48 or 96 units. "Delivery takes 2-10 days for standard products, and 30 days for OEM products made to specification."
Leader Mfg (HK) Ltd, which also produces own-design and OEM PP files and folders, manufactures an expanding file that is partly translucent and partly coloured. "It features offset-printed colour stripes, and can come with six or nine pockets," says marketing manager Angelie Mak.
Other products rolling out of Leader's 100,000-square-foot, 1,000-worker mainland factory in Shenzhen, include a white envelope with a button and coloured patterns, as well as folders sporting eye-catching pictures designed to appeal to children.
Prices for the 18-year-old company's files and folders range from HK$0.50-8.00 FOB Hong Kong for a minimum order of 10,000 units delivered 7-14 days after order confirmation. "North America is our biggest market, making up some 50% of our sales," Mak notes, adding that Leader also exports to Japan and Canada.
PP is also the material used by Intro-Sino Printing & Packing Mfg Ltd in its files and folders, which include a translucent folder model offset-printed with the buyer's logo.
"PP is an environmentally-friendly material and we can give it any Pantone colour," claims sales and marketing manager Nicholas Chan. "We are able to tailor-make folders of any size to customers' requirements."
Files and folders from the largely OEM company are manufactured at a Shenzhen plant that covers 11,600 square metres and employs 300 workers. "The factory is ISO 9000-and ISO 14000-certified," Chan adds.
The 11-year-old firm's products carry price tags in the US$0.10-0.40 FOB Hong Kong range, for minimum orders of 5,000 units delivered 14 days after order confirmation. "Our major markets are Japan, Europe and the US, but we sell worldwide," Chan notes.
Fellow file and folder OEM, Pivot (HK) Ltd, produces lever arch and lever files; ring binders; presentation, hanging, expanding and box files; and document holders and clip folders.
Among its latest items is a PVC legal binder with two D-rings that sells for about US$0.80 FOB Yantian. "It is specially designed to hold legal documents, with an A4-size pocket on the front for the cover sheet of the document," explains director Eric Wong, adding that the number of inside pockets can vary according to customer specifications.
"It can come in any colour - the customer's corporate colour like charcoal or burgundy really makes a law firm's image stand out."
Another eye-catching Pivot product is a premium ring binder in either PU or PVC that costs US$1.40 FOB Yantian. "It is for high-end users, such as bank clients and hotel guests," Wong explains. "It is made from imitation leather, which gives it a good texture."
Other, more traditional products manufactured by the three-year-old company include a PP binder with three O rings, and a binder made from paper that feels like imitation leather.
Pivot manufactures an average of 100,000 folders and files a month at a two-floor factory in Dongguan that employs more than 50 workers. "We export mainly to North America, Europe and Australia, with products usually delivered 15-30 days after order confirmation," Wong adds.
There's clearly no excuse for not keeping any document safe and secure given the enormous array of files and document folders available from Hong Kong.
