Ching Kong (HK) Co Ltd makes 100% silk woven fabric and silk-mix woven fabrics for the Chinese mainland market.

IN recent years, famous international brand names have been turning to Hong Kong for custom-made textiles. With an immense variety of silky fabrics and garment accessories such as lace and ribbon, to satisfy all the whims of fashion, the Hong Kong approach features two common denominators: customization and the promise of quality.

Ching Kong (HK) Co Ltd supplies several major vendors in the US and Europe with 100% woven silk fabrics as well as silk-mix woven fabrics. The company has been concentrating on "filling special orders on an individual basis for 10 years," says sales manager Kent Hui.

Founded in 1992, Ching Kong operates offices as well as a 9,000-square-foot factory employing 11 workers at Tsuen Wan in Hong Kong. The company requires a minimum order for Chinese silk of 350 metres, with the finished product delivered within 2-4 weeks after the order is confirmed. FOB Hong Kong price is approximately HK$39 per metre.

Lucky Weaving Lace Co Ltd also prides itself on its customization capabilities, particularly its dexterity in meeting the cultural expectations of an international clientele ranging from North America to Japan.

"We meet our clients and question them constantly in order to satisfy the desires and tastes of so many different cultures," says export manager Gloria Cheung.

With more than 30 years' experience, Lucky Weaving has become highly adept at delivering customized pieces to any destination within 4-6 weeks after order confirmation.

Lucky Weaving produces a vast selection of garment accessories ranging from handmade, beaded, woven or printed tape to variations in velvet, jacquard, organza, elastic, and of course, lace.

All lace is crafted from cotton and nylon from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan and South Korea. With more than 100,000 square feet of factory space in Shenzhen, and 300 skilled workers, Lucky Weaving is confident of delivering the highest quality products.

Minimum order is approximately 3,000 metres, based on a flexible pricing scale depending on quantity and style. FOB Hong Kong prices also vary depending on the same two factors.

Founded in 1992, Sel Fung Enterprises Ltd specializes in the production of lace made of 100% cotton from the mainland and Taiwan. Exporting to markets in Japan, Sri Lanka and the US, Sel Fung's products appear under brand names such as Unico.

"Japan is one of our most important markets and also our most demanding. The country has several industry quality control tests that are very difficult to pass. However, we pass them every time with our consistently superior quality," says director Kwok Lai Ling.

Hong Kong-based Sel Fung's factory in Dongguan on the Chinese mainland has ISO 9000 certification and a workforce of 500.

The company takes approximately two weeks to deliver after order confirmation. FOB Hong Kong prices range from HK$50-128 per gross, depending on style and quantity.

Wing Tat Computer Embroidery and Labels Co Ltd has been transforming raw cotton and unmodified polyester from the mainland into swathes of embroidery and lace since 1992.

The Hong Kong-based garment specialist has a diverse customer base and numerous alliances with major international brand names, including Gap, Abercrombie & Fitch, DKNY and Disney. Its major markets comprise the US, the UK, Canada, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea and India.

The key to Wing Tat's success, says sales manager Anna Wu, is that "we make designs based on our clients' ideas and direction, and involve many different departments within our company throughout the process to ensure good service and quality."

Orders are channelled through Wing Tat's main offices in Hong Kong and delivery is met 1-4 weeks after the order has been confirmed.

Wing Tat's factory on the mainland covers 30,000 square feet of floor space and employs 380 workers. FOB Hong Kong prices differ significantly depending on the style and quantity ordered.
