Indonesia – Mandatory Indonesian Language on Product Labeling
The Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia recently issued Regulation No.10/M-DAG/PER/1/2014 an amendment to Minister of Trade Regulation No.67/M-DAG/PER/11/2013 on Mandatory Requirement to Attach Label in Bahasa Indonesia on Products. The regulation requires all produced or imported goods to be traded in the Indonesian market to be labelled in the Indonesian language. The implementation of this mandatory labeling requirement came into force on 25 June 2014 for goods that are not yet in the market and on 25 December 2014 for goods that are already in the market.
The labeling requirements are applicable to all consumer products, for both locally manufactured and imported goods, sold in the Indonesian market. The label should be shown in the Bahasa Indonesia language and should be affixed on the goods and/or its packaging. According to the Regulation, product stickers are no longer permitted. Labels must be permanently attached and fully integrated to the product, either embossed or printed.
The Indonesian language label shall contain information related to the safety, security and health of consumers and the environment, such as usage instructions and warning symbols. The label shall also contain the name and address of the party that manufactured or imported the goods.
For textiles, garments and other items such as lingerie, swimsuits, scarves, hosiery and beachwear, the following information in the Indonesian language must be on a permanent label which must clearly be embossed, printed or sewn onto the product.
- Brand name/ Product name
- Fibre content
- Care instruction words (can be supplemented by symbols)
- Country of Origin
For items such as socks, labeling can be printed onto the packaging, which must be available at point of sale.
For footwear products, the following information must be shown on products and/or the packaging. Information on the product may be shown in either Bahasa Indonesia or other languages. Information on the packaging must be shown in Bahasa Indonesia. If the product is being sold without packaging, either box or transparent plastic bag, all labeling information should be shown on the products.

- Leather logo (, in case of leather footwear)
For leather bags, the following information must be clearly displayed on a permanent label attached securely on the products and/or the packaging. Information shown on product, except for care instruction, may be either in Bahasa Indonesia or other languages. Information on the packaging, except for product brand name and country of origin must be written in Bahasa Indonesia.
