For example, Greater China Electronics Ltd produces the M309FM, 256MB MP3.5 player capable of playing movies or music videos in the MTV format. "We also provide the software to convert major movie formats such as MPEG4 and AVI to MTV format," claims marketing executive Kelvin Wong. "The M309FM offers 65,000 OLED colours, high-speed transfer and supports MP3, WMV, ASF, WAV and MPX."
The three-year-old company also manufactures a USB flash disk equipped with fingerprint security. "Only users with fingerprint clearance are able to access data stored on our new USB flash disk," explains Wong. The USB FD43 model also features a USB extension plug, data encryption and multi partitions.
Wong says Greater China produces MP3 players and USB flash disks under its own XBIT brand name, and provides ODM and OEM services. "Consumers are always looking for high-quality products and innovative designs," Wong adds.
"We aim to meet customer demands by providing first-class, quality-controlled manufacturing services."
Products are designed in-house in Hong Kong and produced on the Chinese mainland at a 30,000-square-foot, 200-worker factory that is CE-, FCC- and Sisvel-licensed.
"We manufacture about 100,000 USB flash disks and 40,000 MP3/MP3.5 players each month," says Wong, adding that Greater China also manufactures Bluetooth transmitters and telephone headsets.
Greater China has no minimum order requirement and delivers to markets such as Germany, Korea, Japan and the US 2-4 weeks after order confirmation.
Living up to its name, ISO 9001-certified Sharper Innovations Ltd specialises in producing products that are both innovative and functional. "Items such as our USB radio and USB mirror radio are designed to spice up the home or office desktop," says marketing executive Janice Poon.
The winner of the 2003 Hong Kong Electrical Industry Association design award for outstanding innovations and technology also manufactures a range of computer accessories including USB book lights, cup warmers, battery chargers, document stands with lights, fans fitted with lights, and vacuum cleaners.
"We are proud that our in-house designed product range is diversified and covers different market segments," says Poon. "We are always ready to face new challenges in design and tap into new markets."
She says Sharper Innovations enjoys "significant" market share in the US, Germany, Japan and the UK. "Our distributors appreciate our original, fresh product designs and development focus on maximising convenience, value, benefits and quality for our customers," Poon claims.
Manufacturing takes place at a 6,000-square-metre factory located in Dongguan on the Chinese mainland that produces 30,000 USB radios, 50,000 USB vacuum cleaners and 15,000 battery chargers a month. "We require a minimum order of 2,000 pieces delivered 21-30 days after order confirmation," Poon adds.
Another company that prides itself on producing innovative computer accessories is 22-year-old Primatronix Ltd. "Our Global Tuner portable Internet audio player provides access to thousands of Internet radio stations and audio streams from all over the world," explains marketing assistant Wallis Tsoi. "Unlike broadband solutions, the Global Tuner is portable and does not require a wired connection, allowing users to listen to the radio anywhere they choose."
The ISO 9001-certified company also designs and manufactures USB stereo headsets that are ideal for playing online games. They can also be plugged into a USB port and used for audio conferencing via the Skype software platform that offers free Internet telephone calls.
"Our headset features enhanced DSP echo cancellation and ASTI, our proprietary algorithm for injecting artificial side tone that makes the product as close as possible to a traditional telephone headset amplifier," Tsoi claims.
Tsoi says the company produces telecommunications products under its popular Record a Call brand name and also accepts OEM orders. "We provide a vertically-integrated service, starting from tooling, plastic injection, silk-screening, SMT processes and production assembly and testing," Tsoi says. "We make a significant investment in R&D to explore new products in order and achieve our motto of "A Perfect Match with the Technology World".
Production takes place at a 15,000-square-metre mainland factory in Shenzhen that employs 3,000 workers, who produce 1,000-piece minimum orders for delivery to North America and Europe 60 days after order confirmation.
Given this plethora of new ideas and wealth of innovation capabilities, Hong Kong computer AV accessory manufacturers look particularly well-placed to keep the Internet pulsing.
