Providing reliable power for portable high-energy devices has been a GP Batteries Int'l Ltd specialty for more than 40 years
"The power demands of today's portable high-energy devices have placed battery innovation at the forefront of our development needs," says Andrew Ng, chairman and chief executive of GP Batteries Int'l Ltd.
He cites, for example, the company's latest GP 2700 series (AA) and GP 1000 series (AAA) nickel metal hydride (NiMh) rechargeable batteries that claim to offer the highest charge-life available in the market. "Our NiMh batteries' staying power also translates into long-term saving on battery expenses," Ng claims.
His knowledge is born of a history that dates back to 1964, when Gold Peak Electric Co Ltd was founded in Hong Kong to manufacture dry batteries.
Over the years GP Batteries has expanded to become one of the world's major suppliers of primary and rechargeable batteries, providing an extensive range of battery products to OEMs, leading battery companies and consumer retail markets, and designing, manufacturing and retailing batteries under its own GP brand name.
GP Batteries offers lithium-ion (Li-Ion) and NiMh batteries that are designed for maximum reliability and fully compatible with many of today's leading electronic products.
Unlike previous designs that required the battery to be completely discharged before recharging to avoid the loss-of-memory effect, Li-Ion batteries may be charged at any time and for any length of time without immediately degrading the overall performance.
In addition to batteries, GP also produces a diverse range of feature-rich battery chargers, including four newly-launched GP Power Bank Premium Chargers.
The sleek, streamlined chargers have been specially designed to match the eye-catching look of hi-tech gadgets such as digital cameras and MP3 players.
The GP Power Bank V800C and V600D chargers feature a user-friendly standby button, a new standard-setting feature that allows users to control the charging process and eliminates consumers' safety concerns. In addition, the GP Power Bank V800C boasts a unique digital clock function, which turns the charger into a multi-purpose desktop tool.
Thanks to GP's patented "smart-recharge" technology, the GP Power Bank V800C takes only 15 minutes to fully recharge two batteries, while the GP Power Bank V600D recharges the same number in one hour.
Meanwhile, the GP Power Bank H650C and H500 chargers feature a slim and handy design that is ideal for users looking for a compact charger with outstanding functions.
The GP Power Bank H650C and H500 recharge 1-4 AA /AAA NiMH batteries in one or two hours respectively, while 3-color LED lights on both models provide a quick check of the charging status. The GP Power Bank H650C also features a digital clock, while the GP Power Bank H500 is equipped with a special battery-eject button.
"To maintain a competitive edge we introduce top-quality products into all segments of the market," Ng says, adding that GP Batteries manufactures its high-end batteries in sterile conditions similar to those used for producing semiconductors. "We were also among the first battery manufacturers to address environmental concerns by introducing mercury-free batteries."
Ng says major challenges facing the industry include the high price of raw materials such as zinc, nickel and cobalt. "The high cost of developing new battery technology, short product lifecycles and the cost of raw materials is squeezing the market," he maintains, and believes the trend will produce price increases that would ultimately be passed on to the end-user.
GP Batteries' production facilities are located in Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia, supported by marketing and trading offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Chinese mainland, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Poland, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands, the UK, Canada and the US.
The company currently employs more than 12,000 people worldwide, and many of its factories are ISO 9001-, ISO 14001- and OHSAS 18001-certified.
Ng says that as one of the world's top-10 battery producers, GP Batteries is committed to providing the most enduring power supply for consumers to enjoy the convenience and entertainment offered by hand-held products.
"Proven reliability, safety and increasingly environmentally-friendly batteries, coupled with competitive pricing help, generate a sustained demand for our batteries," Ng concludes.
