Bigger and better than ever(HKTDC Electronics, Vol 02,2008)

HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Fair) 13-16 OCTOBER 2008

The largest electronics fair in Asia will once again attract thousands of international visitors

The HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) will take another step towards becoming the biggest event of its kind in the world when the 28th edition is held in October this year.

Already the second-largest event of its kind in the world, the fair will again be staged at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) from 13-16 October.

"By 2009, when the HKCEC expansion comes on stream, the Hong Kong Electronics Fair is on target to become the biggest show of its kind in the world," says Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Chairman Jack So.

The expansion completion will see exhibition space increase by 40% to cover 66,000 square metres, reflecting Hong Kong's acknowledged status as the dynamic heart of the electronics world.

Latest available figures show that Hong Kong exported US$173bn worth of electronic products in 2007, including such major markets as the Chinese mainland, the US, Japan, Germany, Korea, the Netherlands, Singapore, Taiwan, the UK and Malaysia.

Essential event

Participation in the 2008 fair is therefore essential for electronics and related companies seeking to access these markets and others represented by some 50,000-plus visiting buyers from 160 countries and regions.

They come to view the very latest and best electronics items produced by thousands of leading local, regional and international exhibitors from an equally large number of countries.

Last year's event attracted more than 2,480 exhibiting companies from 29 countries and regions, including Germany, Italy, Spain, Turkey and the US, and the HKTDC confidently expects to exceed this number this year.

That's why buyers keep returning to the Autumn Edition, confident that their attendance will be supported by all the services and facilities of a world-class fair.

"I have been coming to the Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) for 17 years," says Mohammad Arif Chara, General Manager of @ electric-avenue Trading Co (L L C) of Dubai. "It is excellent; I always look forward to this fair."

He adds that Hong Kong has a "very special" commercial flavour. "What I like best about dealing with my suppliers at this fair is that they are honest and committed," Mr Chara says. "For me, the quality-to-price ratio is the best in Hong Kong - of my 43 main suppliers, 28 are based in Hong Kong."

Special zones

Buyers like Mr Chara are particularly impressed with the fact that the Autumn Edition is arranged to highlight exhibitors' strengths, with the ever-increasing number of special zones reaching its zenith in the exciting Hall of Fame.

Companies which place strong emphasis on design and creating collections of branded electronic goods that resonate with consumers find that the Hall of Fame is their most impressive showcase.

The refined setting and elegant ambience saw the Hall of Fame feature more 200 brands in 2007, including renowned names such as Alcatel, Ality, BBK, Founder, Great Wall, Haier, Hisense, Microdia, Midea, 珸evia, OTO, SVA, TCL, Vivitar and Xplore.

This year's Autumn Edition also sees the return of two specialised zones that have proven popular drawcards with leading buyers from all over the world.

Digital World's international mix of more 170 exhibitors features all kinds of digital products, covering entertainment, communications, gadgets, multimedia and computer products.

Meanwhile, Home Tech hosts more than 150 exhibitors and offers a wide range of home appliances, home security products and healthcare electronics.

New horizons

The Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) is equally well known for opening new horizons, with Hong Kong's foremost research institutes, universities and incubator companies displaying their newest ideas and technological breakthroughs in the Technology Exchange Zone.

Equally informative and illuminating are the various seminars held as part of the fair, which see key industry experts sharing views on market trends, business opportunities and challenges of electronic products.

Running concurrently with the Autumn Edition is electronicAsia, the event that for more than 10 years has been the region's most important sourcing point for components, parts, assemblies, services and technology.

A highlight is the World of Display Technology, a 'fair within a fair', which is the place to see the leading-edge display systems available today.

A must-attend event for serious exhibitors and buyers alike, the Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) 2008 is the one show that definitely shouldn't be missed by electronics industry professionals the world over.
