Great Power Electronic Products Co Ltd

Great Power Electronic Products Co Ltd specialises in high-end remote-controlled cars and is licensed to make miniatures of many famous marques

Thanks to continued advances in new technology, Great Power Electronic Products Co Ltd manages to upgrade its high-end radio-controlled cars to cope with market demand for speed.

The result is a host of new models with improved functions and designs as this leading manufacturer maintains its drive to stay ahead of the competition.

"With the support of our own factory on the Chinese mainland, we offer good quality products at competitive prices," says chairman David Yeung. "Located in Dongguan, the plant spans more than 100,000 square feet, is equipped with powerful and well-managed assembly lines, and has about 700 employees."

Boasting a strong R&D team, this toy manufacturer also manages to come up with about five or six new designs each year. Products range from single to full-function mode, with turbo power, digital proportional controlled multi-channel sport cars, road cars, racers, boats and buggies.

Established in 1987, Great Power utilises its own GP logo and exports to buyers around the world. The EU and the US are its two largest markets.

"In the coming 3-5 years, we will also include the mainland in our market portfolio, but not just yet," says Yeung. "This is because we only produce high-end models that sell for HK$100-400 each FOB Hong Kong. This price range would be considered a bit luxurious for many mainland consumers at this stage."

Some of the company's most sought-after models include the new Mercedes digital proportional touring cars and 1:10 digital proportional licensed sport cars with easy-to-control steering-wheel transmitters. Maximum speeds can gear up to 35-40 km/h and control units support simultaneous racing of up to four cars.

A new digital proportional racing boat - the Dolphin R-28 - is equipped with a powerful 540 motor with speeds of up to 15-18 km/h.

The chairman says that product quality is not the only determining factor and that workmanship can be just as important. "In our case, we need to offer alluring product appearance and finishing, and always be in pursuit of higher speed. We further enhance our competitive edge with attentive follow-up services. We believe that it is very important to maintain good relationships with both new and existing customers."

Great Power products carry a reputation for high quality, attractive colours, packing and packaging, punctual deliveries and reasonable prices. "All of these factors combine to put us in a competitive position in the toys industry," he adds.

Noting that the product cycle for toys is short in a fast-changing market, Yeung says, "We have to keep moving up the value-added chain, by producing superb products with the application of new technology. A few years ago, we successfully won permission from BMW, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and Nissan to manufacture their updated licensed toy cars." Bearing the trademarks of those world-renowned brands, related models come with highly detailed interiors and distinctive designs.

"All of our products comply with safety standards such as EN71 and EN50088, and we have radio approvals like EMC, R&TTE, FCC and RSS-210," says Yeung, who is optimistic about prospects for 2004.
