Maternity & Baby Products
Comfort, convenience, fun and safety are selling points for maternity and baby products from Asia, which are proving the mother of all choices
The experience of bringing up a child is both rewarding and arduous. Thankfully, mums and dads can always rely on innovative maternity and baby products from Asian manufacturers to enhance the joys of parenthood.
When it comes to baby-proof solutions, a Smart System 2 Ways Swing Back Gate (model SG-21BK) offered by Taime Pte Ltd is a fine example.
"This safety gate acts as a barrier for curious babies and pets trying to enter off-limits areas," says Merchandising Director Eileen Tan. "It opens in two directions and has a triple locking system. It's pressure-mounted, so there is no need for screws or hardware that damages woodwork or walls." The unit price is US$21.77 FOB Yantian.
"The gate is 76cm high and 82cm wide, but we offer optional extension panels of 9cm, 18cm and 27cm in width. In effect, the gate can fit door widths of up to 136cm."
Another favourite product is the company's Mini Laser Safety Clip-On Fan (model 609088), which creates different light patterns as its blades turn. "The foam blades are very soft so that it's safe even if a baby touches them," Ms Tan says, adding that the fan is available in a choice of red, purple, blue, green or yellow.
"The fan can be clipped onto playpens, cots and strollers. Its flexible rotating neck means it can be turned in all directions," Ms Tan advises, noting that FOB Hong Kong unit prices range from about US$1.94-2.19. Other must-haves from Taime include a baby food-and-bottle warmer and a milk-time pillow.
For breastfeeding, Regal Enterprises Ltd has designed an electric breast pump (model 30106). "In many countries, mothers are being encouraged to breastfeed their babies as it's a healthier option. So we designed this breast pump for working mothers," says Marketing Manager Angel Ng.
"Compared with traditional breast pumps, this one makes breastfeeding much easier," she claims. "Its suction strength can be adjusted by pressing a button. There's a soft funnel that helps to protect sensitive areas, and hence makes the pump more comfortable to use."
Working off either two AA batteries or the mains, the pump comes with accessories such as a feeding bottle, bottle caps and a bag.
Other best-sellers from Regal include an electric steam steriliser (model 80102), a wipes warmer (model 70301) and a four-litre portable baby shower (model 80500).
"The showerhead is designed to release water gently so it doesn't hurt the baby. The baby shower can be easily carried around and taken out into the garden or to beach parties," Ms Ng says.
Cleanliness goes hand-in-hand with health, and parents can effectively measure their children's temperatures with thermometers from Geon Corp, such as the One-Second Ear Thermometer (model GE-TE06).
"This unit measures a baby's temperature within one second at the press of a button," claims General Manager Henry Chen. "Mothers may find it difficult to get very young kids to accept an oral thermometer, and in such cases this one-second ear model is recommended."
Once the temperature is recorded, an indicator turns either green for 'no fever', or red for 'fever'. "This alerts the mother immediately if the baby has a fever. Separately, there's a digital panel that displays the temperature," Mr Chen explains, adding that the thermometer works on a CR2032 flat battery and is available in green, pastel blue, yellow or pink.
The company also produces a range of digital thermometers featuring cute animal faces, such as a frog, panda and teddy bear (MT-B132FA). "These digital thermometers record temperatures within the standard 60 seconds - experience tells us that it's easier for older kids to hold still for one minute," Mr Chen assures.
Babies love fun, and Anhui Jiabao Toys (Group) Co Ltd keeps them happy with a playmat (model JBBW1578). "It comes with adjustable handles that are made of high-grade EPE sponge, and on them are removable toys," says Vice President David Chen, quoting a unit price of about US$9.06 FOB Shanghai and a minimum order of 800 pieces.
Another hit for the firm is an inflatable stool. "On it is a cute cartoon face that appeals to kids. The velvet cover is washable and the stool is actually an air-filled bag that is very light and can easily be handled by children," advises Mr Chen.
Other favourite items from Anhui Jiabao Toys include bootees featuring cute mouse faces and a rattle in the shape of an elephant.
All these ingenious offerings clearly take consummate care of mothers and children, leaving them eagerly expectant of more maternity and baby products from Asia.
