The Hong Kong International Jewellery Show is not only an invaluable sourcing platform, it also adds value to buyers and suppliers through a series of activities including design competitions.

The well-established Hong Kong Jewellery Design Competition, for example, showcases the creativity and craft of local designers, and their winning designs are on display at the fairground.

A new dimension has been added to the 2009 edition with the debut of a prestigious international design award - the International Jewellery Design Excellence (IJDE) Award 2009.

The HKTDC has joined hands with the Hong Kong Jewellers' & Goldsmiths' Association, the Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers Association, the Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers' Association and the Diamond Federation of Hong Kong, China, to organise the event.

The award truly recognises the best of the best - all entrants are winners already, having been awarded the top prizes in other jewellery design competitions.

Invitations to compete were issued worldwide and the competition has brought this elite group together, with the ultimate winner being named Champion of Champions.

Other highlights include seminars by industry experts who address various issues, including the latest product trends, market information and technological developments.

In addition, buyers and suppliers can seek inspiration in the form of a programme of parades, with models showing off exhibitors' eye-catching creations.

Whatever the product or market need, it is certain to be found at the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show with its sparkling selections of quality jewellery to suit all needs.

Still Showing the Way

The HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show continues to go from strength to strength with every passing year, further enhancing its reputation as a magnet for high-calibre jewellery importers, wholesalers, designers and retailers from around the world.

They were attracted by the sheer quality and tremendous variety of jewellery being displayed by more than 2,300 exhibitors from 45 countries and regions.

Exhibitors included representatives of 22 group pavilions - the largest number in the history of the fair - including the Chinese mainland, Dubai, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and the US.

Industry associations represented included the Antwerp World Diamond Centre, International Colored Gemstone Association, Israel Diamond Institute, Japan Jewellery Association, Japan Jewellery Designers Association, Japan Pearl Exporters' Association, Japan Yamanashi Crystal Jewellery Association and the Platinum Guild International.

Their participation reflects Hong Kong's high international profile, making it the perfect place to stage a jewellery industry event, given its expertise in the sector.

Hong Kong's own jewellery manufacturing industry is a sparkling success story, with exports from January-September 2008 growing by more than 21% to US$3.5bn.

Leading markets such as the US, the UK and Switzerland all posted good increases, underscoring the world's seemingly insatiable appetite for Hong Kong's high quality, competitively priced jewellery.
