Ladies' Dress Watches
The Finishing Touch
Ladies' bracelet watches with cubic zirconia settings from Crystal Jewellery & Watches Ltd make elegant eveningwear
What woman doesn't want to look her best when she dresses for an evening out? And what better accessory than a stylish ladies' dress watch from the enormous range offered by Hong Kong watch manufacturers such as Crystal Jewellery & Watches Ltd?
The 13-year-old manufacturer produces a range of ladies' watches in brass, under both its own Crystal brand name and on an OEM basis. "We mainly sell our own designs, with customers coming to our office to choose samples," says marketing executive Fiona Tam. "However, we are also happy to produce according to our customers' own design or specifications."
Two of the company's main markets are the Middle East and Europe, both of which, Tam says, demand elegant watch designs set with multiple stones. "It is important for us to keep abreast of trends in particular markets, and our extensive range of styles reflects this," she notes.
One of Crystal's best selling ranges this year has been its sparkling ladies' bracelet watch range featuring cubic zirconia settings (models MB-4809, MB-4871, MB-4838 and MB-4864).
The company currently produces 10,000-15,000 of these models per month at its 10,000-square-foot factory in Bao'an on the Chinese mainland, using brass imported from Japan.
Crystal Jewellery welcomes orders from customers worldwide and will provide FOB Hong Kong prices on request. Minimum order is 100 pieces per item of standard styles, delivered 45-50 days after order confirmation.
Even more prolific is Legend Silver Jewellery & Watch Mfy Ltd, which manufactures more than 750 individual styles at its mainland factory in Dongguan.
"We produce three lines of watches - pure 925 sterling silver, alloy and brass," explains marketing and sales manager Yvonne Lai. "Within these three lines we incorporate stones according to market demand - jade, semiprecious stones or gemstones."
Lai adds that the 18-year-old company will also produce watches with imitation gemstones as part of its commitment to cater to customer needs, which vary according to individual markets. "Europeans are really into gemstones and adore small glamorous styles, while the US market prefers plainer styles," she says.
European customers are particularly keen on Legend's elegant multiple stone watches, such as model LW7576, a 925 sterling silver watch with black agate and LW7759, a 925 sterling silver watch with multiple gemstones.
These are available for a trial order of 50 pieces per model for silver watches and 100 pieces per model for base metal watches, delivered in 30 days at FOB Hong Kong prices obtainable on request.
Europe is also a key market for Rich Blossom Watch Mfy Ltd, which manufactures quartz ladies' watches as well as mechanical unisex watches. "Part of our company's appeal is the range of styles we produce under the Blossom brand name," says account manager Jesse Ip. "In addition we produce on an OEM basis."
She adds that the company can produce a sample within a short timeframe, depending on the style. "A client simply needs to let us know the type of materials and movement required and their price range," Ip explains.
Rich Blossom, which produces 200,000 items per month at its 3,200-square-metre mainland factory, sources quality raw materials including Swarovski crystals from Austria. "The majority of our customers are based in Europe, though we also cater to growing demand from the Middle East, Japan and the US," Ip adds.
Minimum order sizes depend on the materials used - 300 pieces for stainless steel models and 500 for brass. Delivery takes 45-60 days depending on the size of order.
Working women are the specific target group for Saga Watch Hong Kong Ltd, which prefers to concentrate on one sector rather than trying to appeal to broad market segments.
"Saga is one of the largest makers of watches in Asia," claims account executive Ellen Hong. "Our designs are trendy and tasteful with classic touches."
Hong believes the company's success is due to its in-house design team. "We cater to the specific design quality and price requirements of our customers," she says.
For example, the FC1183G ladies' gold-plated watch has a round case with stones set on the lugs and a mother-of-pearl dial with gold dot markers, while the 30221FOC is rhodium-plated with stones on the bezel and a wavy dial with Roman numerals at the six and 12 markers. "The prices of our watches range from US$10-50," Hong adds.
Saga, which was founded in 2000 by a group of European jewellery professionals, started as a small craft shop with a dozen employees and now employs 1,000 workers who produce more than one million pieces a year.
These prove popular with customers across the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, the Middle East and the US. Its minimum order size and delivery time vary according to the size of order and the client's location.
So if buyers want to make time with the free-spending ladies' market, they had better not waste time in hightailing it to Hong Kong to check out the enormous range of dress watches on offer.
