Nothing speaks of the enduring relationship between a man and a woman as much as a pair of matching watches that are not only extremely functional but also stylish enough for any occasion.
The evergreen popularity of His & Her's timepieces has long been recognised by Hong Kong watch manufacturers, whose catalogues have grown to embrace a world of functional yet fashionable ideas.
For example, Artstate Technology Ltd takes the harmony between two people to new heights with its His & Her's watches, which automatically tune into a radio signal to adjust the time when worn in Germany or Japan.
The 15-year-old company's 1,000-square-metre, 50-worker factory in Shenzhen on the Chinese mainland has been producing radio-controlled watches and clocks like these for major markets such as Europe and Japan for the past 15 years.
"These are our most complicated watches," director Louis Kei comments, adding that the classically elegant yet space-age watches can be supplied with either natural leather straps or metal bracelets. "They cost U$$26 each FOB Hong Kong for minimum orders of 500 units delivered two months after order confirmation."
Buyers seeking something a little less sophisticated might care to try Ruter Jay Co Ltd, whose OEM/ODM service will produce "virtually any design" the customer wants according to business department manager Mandy Yim.
She notes that the seven-year-old firm produces a wide range of LCD and mechanical timepieces and parts, including stylish stainless steel ladies' and gents' watches that boast a sleek, modern look currently very popular in Europe and Japan.
"As a guide, a typical model costs around US$15 FOB Hong Kong, with presentation boxes costing slightly extra," Yim observes. "We require a minimum order of 500 pieces for delivery 60-75 days after order confirmation."
Similarly focusing on offering good-looking His & Her's watches is On-United Ltd, whose latest classical collection features solid, traditional good looks and beautiful straps. "The red straps are extremely popular in Europe, where the colour is considered trendy, whilst in Asia it appeals as it is traditionally associated with good luck," notes marketing assistant Henry Chau, adding that they cost US$2.50 each FOB Hong Kong
Ten-year-old On-United manufactures its children's, sports, plastic, licensed and promotional watches at a 100-worker factory in Shenzhen on the mainland for sale in Europe, Korea, Japan and the US. "We can provide minimum orders of 1,000 watches, which can be made up of assorted models, 40 days after order confirmation," Chau adds.
Taking a more retrospective approach is Synergy Enterprise Ltd, which has released a new line of understated His & Her's stainless steel watches with leather straps that evoke all the glamour and style of days gone by. "They sell particularly well in Germany because they have an elegant look," director Steve Lo believes.
He says that the 14-year-old OEM/ODM firm has been producing quartz watches that bear its Icon brand or customers' own logos for the past 14 years. "We are very flexible when it comes to minimum orders and will supply as few as 50 watches at an average cost of US$12.50 each FOB Hong Kong - though even the price is flexible," Lo adds, noting that Synergy delivers 25-60 days after order confirmation.
Also focusing on the European market is Pengelly Co Ltd, which offers a wide range of classic stainless steel and titanium timepieces that reflect the current consumer preference for a square watch face.
Manufactured at a 10,000-square-foot, 100-worker factory in Shenzhen that produces more than 50,000 watches a month, the 25-year-old OEM/ODM company also has its own Pocalla brand. "Our minimum order size is 300 pieces per model and 1,000 watches per order, which we can deliver 60-70 days after order confirmation," director Alex Chow advises.
Looking to more exotic locales is Unilux Time (HK) Ltd, which exports to South America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia according to assistant manager Raymond Lam. "We have built an excellent reputation in these markets thanks to our quality and after-sales service, which are very important to us," he says.
The 28-year-old firm uses both Japanese and Swiss movements, depending on buyer specifications, in its classic, slim designs that Lam claims are "consistently" popular. "Demand is constant for these designs, which suffer less from the ups and downs associated with the more trendy fashion lines," he observes.
Tastefully designed matching pairs of His & Her's watches bearing either leather straps or metal bracelets are available at US$8 and US$15 FOB Hong Kong for minimum orders of 300 items delivered 2-3 months after order confirmation.
Romantic couples the world over can rest assured that Hong Kong manufacturers are dedicated to developing and producing the His & Her's watches that are eternal symbols of everlasting love.
