For example, Triempire Industrial Ltd is offering a line of quartz analogue ladies' bracelet watches with ornamental bands sporting blue Czech rhinestones. "The bands are elastic and fit wrists of different sizes," explains manager Teresa Tam.
She says the dials come in feminine shapes, such as hearts or ovals, while the Japanese movements are encased in Australian zinc alloy for maximum durability.
The 200-worker, 10-year-old company's 21,800-square-foot factory in Shenzhen on the southern Chinese mainland can produce up to 130,000 watches a month.
FOB Hong Kong price per unit for the quartz analogue timepieces is US$2.20 for a minimum order of 2,000 or US$2.50 for 500. "Delivery takes about a month-and-a-half to two months, depending on the model," Tam adds. With an annual revenue of US$6.4m, Triempire exports worldwide, mainly to South America, the UK and Japan, under the Motive brand name.
Fashion watches glittering with Czech stones also grace the catalogue of Shannons (HK) Ltd, whose offerings include a model with a jewel-studded square face and frame.
"Our watches have Japanese movements, and the cases are made with alloy from Europe," sales department executive Sunny So says, adding, "We are developing stylish, elegant and trendy designs at attractive prices."
Established in 1986, Shannons produces about 200,000 watches per month under the Polini brand name. "Minimum order size is negotiable, depending on the style," adds So.
Shannons' accessory watches, which are produced at a 300-worker plant in Shenzhen, are generally priced at US$3-5 FOB Hong Kong each and can be delivered in 45-60 days. "Our key markets are the US and Europe, though we also sell to other regions such as Asia and the Middle East," So notes.
Accessory watches are not confined to wrist ornaments, with E & C Watch Enterprise Ltd, for instance, manufacturing a wide range of fancy pocket watches for men and women.
Among them is a mechanical version with a tourbillon. "It's wound by hand and has a sun/moon display," explains marketing manager Margaret Ho.
The watch features a Chinese mechanical movement in a brass case with acid gold or PNP plating, 24-hour indicator, hands that are made in Japan and a champagne Roman dial, as well as a brass crown and acid gold-plated metal chain.
Another E & C pocket watch boasts a 925 sterling silver case, printed dial, hands made in Japan, a brass crown, Swiss parts and an epoxy plate decorated with a floral pattern. "It can be either quartz or mechanical," Ho adds.
E & C, which has some 20 years' experience in watch production, makes approximately 15,000 watches per month on average at a 16,000-square-foot Shenzhen factory using brass, sterling silver and stainless steel, mainly from the mainland. "Minimum order is 100 units for most models," Ho says. "Delivery takes 50 days after order confirmation, and our major markets are the US and Western Europe."
Pocket watches are also among the specialties of Winmix Hong Kong Ltd, whose antique pocket watches for men are distinguished by their classic look and hands with cursive patterns. "They have iron chains with clips for attaching to the user's belt," marketing manager Irene Kwong adds, noting that the firm also supplies high-end 925 sterling silver pocket watches.
Winmix also makes a variety of pendant watches for ladies, including one round model that comes with a cover adorned with Swarovski coloured stones. "A photo can be displayed on the inside of the cover," Kong observes.
Both the pocket and pendant models are quartz analogue watches with Japanese movements, and are manufactured at a factory in Panyu on the southern mainland that employs some 60 workers who produce approximately 100,000 watches per month.
Available in minimum quantities of 1,000 units delivered 45 days after order confirmation, they carry the Swingy brand name and their popularity in Europe and the US has helped the one-year-old company build a healthy annual turnover.
"Our focus is classic and antique watches," explains Wong. "Our watches sell for about US$2.80-40.00 FOB Hong Kong each and we launch new styles frequently."
Buyers who shop in Hong Kong will certainly find their time well spent, while fashion-conscious consumers who choose Hong Kong accessory watches will be wearing timepieces that definitely turn heads.
