There is nothing quite like a high-quality bag or case to get a trip off on the right foot, no matter whether it is across town or round the world
Fashion-savvy Hong Kong companies can offer global buyers a huge and ever-increasing range of mobile solutions - from hard case or soft shell to genuine leather - all carefully crafted to suit consumers' needs.
Supplying most of Europe, but keen to break into the North American market, King Zebra Enterprise (HK) Ltd's product portfolio includes not only luggage but also ladies' handbags.
"Our team of merchandisers scours the Chinese mainland sourcing the best quality raw materials at the most competitive prices," claims General Manager Morisa Chang, adding that the savings achieved are passed on to customers.
The firm's in-house designers can supply products to buyer specifications, although Ms Chang insists that King Zebra already enjoys "an enviable reputation" for producing fashionable products that are popular with buyers.
Two such examples are model number KHL-7021, made from high-grade 600D polyester, and KHL-7005, crafted from 1200D polyester - both sporting EVA-laminated panels.
Competitively priced at US$32 FOB Shanghai for the 20-inch, 24-inch and 28-inch three-piece set and US$34 for the 20-inch, 24-inch and 28-inch three-piece set respectively, delivery is 60-75 days from receipt of order.
The key to maintaining quality for the Yee Hop Leather Ware Fty Co Ltd is a vertically-integrated manufacturing process that encompasses design, materials, cutting, sewing, labelling and packaging as well as EVA moulding and manufacturing metal accessories.
The company began producing EVA luggage at its mainland factories in Shenzhen and Liuzhou in 1994, although its manufacturing experience stretches back to 1976.
Particularly popular at the moment is the trendy 24-inch trolley backpack, model number 10824, which is constructed from Taiwanese 1680D nylon.
Available in minimum order quantities of 1,000 pieces for around US$36.65 each FOB Hong Kong, its recessed handle allows the bag to be used as a trolley or worn as a backpack, adding to its appeal and versatility.
Manager Candy Chau says that Yee Hop "wants to develop higher-quality products in the future" as the firm has identified a trend towards higher price points.
The company also produces a luggage range using popular licensed brands, Hello Kitty and Snoopy. "Although we are now focusing on the European market," adds Ms Chau, "we welcome enquiries from buyers wherever they are."
Both hard and soft luggage has been made by Acota (FE) Ltd since 1994 at its factory in Guangdong Province, where some 500 workers carefully craft various kinds of bags that generate annual turnover in excess of US$5m.
"Not having our own brand is a plus as it allows us to focus on customers' own designs," claims Managing Director Henry Chan. "We are willing to export worldwide."
An example of Acota's expertise is a soft trolley bag made of 600D nylon, available for US$23 per piece, while a hard trolley case in cool neoprene with PU trim costs US$20 per piece. Both prices are FOB Hong Kong for minimum orders of 1,000 items, delivered 30-45 days after order confirmation.
Ten floors of manufacturing capacity allows Creative Travelware Ltd to produce more than 110,000 pieces of luggage per month at its 700-worker factory in Fujian Province, which conforms to the international SA8000 standard.
Classic examples of the 17-year-old firm's output are the twill polyester trolley case (model numbers 070319 A/B/C), which are fully lined and boast recessed handles and rollerblade wheels.
Typical price ranges are US$15 and US$17 per piece for models A and B, FOB Hong Kong, for a minimum order of 600 pieces or one TEU, delivered 60 days after order confirmation.
Creative's own designers normally handle the production of a wide range of duffle bags, backpacks, business cases, shopping trolleys, laptop bags and leather-look holdalls, although OEM customers are always welcome.
"Our strategy now is to make the products lighter and more durable, while maintaining a reasonable but competitive pricing policy," Manager William Lau comments.
Durability is also a key feature at Join Winner Industrial Ltd, where Merchandiser Barry Wang knows that high visibility is equally important in a crowded market place. "You will definitely see us at more trade shows," he promises.
Twice a year the 10-year-old firm revises its collections in order to take advantage of emerging trends, a practice which has attracted leading companies such as Disney, Puma and Kappa. They all benefit from Join Winner's "3G" rule. "This stands for good style, good quality and good price," Mr Wang explains.
A typical ABS hard-shell trolley case such as model number JW061074 is available for US$38.50 per set of three, with a minimum order quantity of 600 pieces.
EVA trolley case model number JW061072, manufactured in 600D polyester, is currently priced at US$11 per piece, although the minimum order quantity is slightly higher at 1,500 pieces. Both items can be delivered 50 days after order confirmation to customers in Join Winner's main market, Europe.
Once again, Hong Kong companies show that when it comes to unparalleled quality, value and service, they have trendy travel options in the bag.
