Wallets are both functional and fashionable items that have the added beneTt of being extremely long-lasting. No one knows this better than Hong Kong manufacturers, who have an extensive range of high quality, reasonably priced men's and women's wallets that feature classic styling and both in-house and OEM designs.
Crown Faith Development Ltd, for example, manufactures a range of classic men's and women's leather wallets for customers in its main market of Asia.
The company has been designing products for 13 years, working leather that is sourced in Italy, says manager Dick Yip. "New designs are based on customers' needs and we can provide a range of colours to suit all requests".
Crown Faith's factory in Huizhou on the Chinese mainland employs 400 people, who manufacture negotiable minimum orders delivered in 30-50 days for variable FOB Hong Kong prices that begin at US$2 per item.
Fung Tat Leather Fty Ltd also has a negotiable minimum order for its range of wallets, which are manufactured from nappa leather sourced in Italy and India. "Nappa leather is very popular because of its very soft feel," explains marketing executive Ben Lai.
Lai says that it is possible to order as few as 300-500 pieces, depending on the item and colour. "Soft leather wallets are our most popular products," he adds. "They range in price from US$6.00-7.80 FOB Hong Kong per item and can be delivered 35-55 days after order conTrmation."
The ISO 9001-certiTed company bases its designs on customers' requirements and produces approximately 100,000 pieces a month at its 5,000-square-metre mainland factory in Dongguan City. "Our major markets are Singapore, Japan, France, Germany, and the Netherlands," Lai adds.
Nappa leather from Korea is also a key raw material for Manifolds Industrial Co Ltd, whose main markets include the US and Germany. "We have an in-house designer who conducts market research to come up with designs that will become future trends in men's wallet designs," explains sales manager Kenny Yan. "The women's selection is based mainly on OEM designs."
The company's factories in Huizhou and Shenzhen on the mainland produce 150,000 handbags, travel bags and small leather goods per month.
Manifolds' wallets are available in minimum quantities of 500 units at FOB Hong Kong prices ranging from US$2.90-5.14 per item, delivered 30-65 days after order conTrmation.
Stretch Metal & Stationery Fty Ltd also boasts an in-house designer, who is responsible for the company's range of men's and women's wallets that is popular in Japan and European markets such as France and Germany.
"Our designer spends several months a year developing the range, sourcing different leathers and coming up with new styles," explains manager Voice Lee.
Established in 1984, Stretch manufactures 40,000 wallets per month, which are available in minimum quantities of 1,000 pieces per style. "FOB Hong Kong prices range from US$3-4 per piece for small wallets to US$7 per item for larger wallets, which are all leather," Lee says.
Stretch uses leather, PVC, PU, iron and split leather in its products, which are manufactured for leading companies such as Sony and Disney and can be delivered 3-4 weeks after order conTrmation.
Superl Ltd, meanwhile, manufactures a wide range of wallets made of leather or fabric sourced in the US, Korea, Italy, the Chinese mainland and Spain. "We manufacture wallets under OEM terms and have a minimum order size of 1,000 pieces delivered 30 days after order conTrmation," says product development manager Irene Mak.
Established in 1999, Superl has a 500,000-square-foot factory in Dongguan on the mainland that produces 250,000 items a month for customers in the US, Europe and Japan.
Popular items include the classic ladies' wallet, the women's wallet with photo frame and a heart-shaped wallet; all of which are available in colours such as black, brown and burgundy.
Black and brown are equally popular colours at Uni Industrial Ltd, which manufactures traditional wallets as well as others with additional decorative elements such as tassels, leather punch work and shoulder straps. "Our wallets are popular in Japan, Europe and the US, and can be manufactured under OEM terms," says merchandiser Sonia Ngan.
Uni utilises leather, PVC and fabric in its products, which are manufactured for world-famous clients the calibre of Stefano Orso, Pierre Cardin and Lotto.
The two-year-old company's 300-worker Huizhou factory manufactures minimum orders based on size and style. "Delivery time after order conTrmation is 30-60 days, depending upon the availabilty of materials," Ngan adds.
Proving that whatever the market, Hong Kong manufacturers can create men's and women's wallets that meet the needs of consumers in all walks of life.
