Essential Extras(HKTDC Fashion - Leather Goods & Bags, Vol 02,2008)
Adding the final touch of glamour to any outfit, evening bags are an important accessory in any woman's wardrobe
Major fashion accessories such as evening bags should not only be top quality, they must also reflect the very latest trends if they are to win the hearts and minds of consumers worldwide.
Hong Kong manufacturers such as C-Corp Int'l Co Ltd know this only too well and can provide a wide range of styles that are always in demand wherever the marketplace.
The company's catalogue boasts a large range of stylish leather evening bags - including current best sellers models CP-150507-9 and CP-150607-8. "These bags are part of the new clutch styles from our Charming Pop collection," explains Director Matthew Chow.
"I expect both bags to continue to be strong sellers with our customers, who range from high-end fashion labels to new and upcoming designer brands as well as chainstores, wholesalers and retailers."
Charming Pop model CP-150607-8 is entitled The Dolce Vita and is an Italian 3D patent leather evening clutch bag with a buckle front flap that measures 8x5.5x1.5 inches. "We are using a new 3D patent sheepskin leather that is translucent so the leather grain can be seen through the patent finish," Mr Chow says.
He adds that C-Corp also uses patent croco-printed cow leather. "Croco-printed leather is always very fashionable, but we added this feature with the patent trend to make this a true classic finish," Mr Chow explains.
Detailing on the inside is also important and the company's bags include separate compartments for credit cards, mobile phones, cameras and MP3 players. "We believe strongly in using contrasting colours for the lining, because we understand how hard it is to find belongings if the lining does not stand out enough," Mr Chow notes.
C-Corp tailors the price point for different markets by using leather from a variety of sources. "These models use Italian leathers, so the average price based on the minimum order is around US$35 per bag FOB Hong Kong," he says.
Mr Chow notes that one of the company's competitive advantages is its ability to identify upcoming trends. "C-Corp is always striving to design and make the next 'it' bag," he says. "We believe we have the right vertical integration and factory set-up to make this work."
Looking to the future, he says that the trend for 2009 will be natural coloured leathers with python and croco prints. "We also believe that printed patent leathers will also remain strong and have developed a large range with these leathers," Mr Chow advises.
Chainstores with their own buying and design teams are a key target segment for Bag Pack Supplies Group Ltd, whose OEM customers also include retailers that purchase the company's own Brave Culture-brand bags.
One popular model is 900209P-B1, a 93/4x2x4 inches plated leopard metallic mesh bag featuring a gold-plated chain handle. "Styles currently in season and selling well are bags that feature patent leather, metallic finishes and materials, and animal prints," observes Director John Tsang.
He notes that the handbag industry is a saturated market and companies need to define themselves by introducing models that are contemporary and unique. "We design bags that are unusual but are still in line with the current trends," Mr Tsang maintains.
An example of this approach is the range of bags that Bag Pack is introducing for the 2009 season. "These new projected styles will highlight bags that have more detailing and texture and are studded with beads, rhinestones, crystals, and combinations of shiny patent materials in black and silver," Mr Tsang explains.
One of Bag Pack's competitive strengths is its quick sample time, he claims. "Another is our deep understanding of the fashion industry and trends, which we need for our own brands to be successful," Mr Tsang insists. "Competitors that do not have their own brand often fall short on the trend side."
Chi Sun Beaded Handbags Fty, meanwhile, believes that an ongoing trend for evening bags is the addition of beads, embroidery and sequins in a variety of shapes and styles.
Illustrating this philosophy is model CS-4620/1, which features satin, glass beads and sequins, measures 22x13x7.5cm and is available in eight colours, with blue, black, white, grey and military green current favourites.
"All our bags are 100% handmade, which allows us to create shapes and detailing that would not be possible if they were machine-made," says Manager Chan Yin Ching.
The company has a large range of evening bags in a wide choice of colours, which Mr Chan says is part of the reason its products are so popular with customers.
"Other market advantages are the stunning designs and the high quality, combined with competitive pricing," Mr Chan says. "We also focus on increasing our customer's competitive advantage by providing integrated services from design through to shipping, which eliminates the need for third-party expenses and reduces time to market."
This type of commitment and concern for buyers and consumers ensures that Hong Kong evening bag manufacturers remain the first and only choice for these perennially popular essential extras.
