Taiwan Bans Barium Salts and Tightens Cadmium Content Restrictions in Cosmetic Products
Following publication of draft regulation No. 1061606708 on September 28, 2017, the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) published official notice no. 1071601490, banning the manufacture, importation, sale and distribution of cosmetics containing barium salts, except barium sulfate, barium sulfide, infusible salts for colorants, lakes and pigments. The ban will be effective from September 1, 2018.
At the same time, the technically unavoidable limit of Cadmium is lowered from 20ppm to 5ppm as amended in official notice no. 1071601133, the new limit has been in force since March 28, 2018.
These two amendments have been incorporated into the List of prohibited substances in cosmetic products (March 28, 2018 version).
