Fit For Life
One such firm, Techlink Corp Ltd, which was established 2001, has developed expertise in the manufacture of electronic healthcare products. Most recently, the company's team of experienced engineers and designers has brought digital diet scales, pedometers and digital clinical thermometers to the market.
"Our products are manufactured within FDA regulations," says operations officer Lesley Ng. "For Europe, we have clinical CE certification and comply with EU standards on environmental materials."
The Digital Diet Scale, model TL518, is a popular item that comes with a handy booklet detailing 2,771 foods listed for easy reference by healthy people, diabetics or other users who must be cautious about the foods they eat.
There are also hard and soft probe clinical thermometers: "Model TL200 has a hard tip for common use, while model TL201 is flexible and mainly for use with babies so the tip will not break off if chewed," says Ng.
Techlink's basic, belt-clip pedometer is a step-counter for walkers or joggers. Other versions can also monitor the number of calories burned during exercise.
Production takes place at an ISO 9001- and EN 46001-certified 4,000-square-metre factory in Shenzhen on the Chinese mainland. OEM and ODM projects are welcome, and most orders go to destinations in Europe. Minimum order is 1,000 pieces for delivery 4-6 weeks after order confirmation.
Noted for its production of advanced measuring and testing equipment, 1990-established ATM Ltd also offers clinical thermometers and pillboxes with several useful features.
"Our pillboxes have compartments for different pills and a count-down timer to alert users to take their medicines," says marketing manager Delphine Lam. "There is also a pulse sensor, which goes on a finger, and a digital clock."
A 10-most-recent-temperatures memory feature allows easy reference of previous measurements. "Following the automatic beep that informs the user that the test has finished, the memory bank in the model CT889 Clinical Thermometer stores the reading for future reference," says Lam.
Using ABS throughout, ATM ensures its products are entirely lead-free. "We also provide comprehensive services for OEM projects, and offer a wide variety of items to international standards," says Lam. "All of our products come with FDA/CE approvals."
Production takes place at a 15,000-square-metre plant in Dongguan on the mainland. Shipments go to markets worldwide, starting at minimum orders of 500 pieces for delivery 25-30 days after order confirmation.
Another well-established manufacturer specialising in electric fans and humidifiers is Win Global Electrical Appliance Ltd. This company also offers a line of healthcare products like humidifiers.
"We have two humidifiers at present," says sales and marketing manager Charles Leung. "One is a steam, warm-mist humidifier that uses a heating element to produce the moisture, while the other is an ultrasonic-based humidifier available in two versions: warm-mist only, or warm- and cool-mist."
According to Leung, a room with the correct level of humidity is better for the skin and better for the general health. "In some countries the air is very dry, so a humidifier can change the room conditions to make it more conducive to maintaining health," he asserts.
The firm's ISO 9001-certified 27,000-square-metre factory in Nanhai on the mainland accepts minimum orders of one FEU for delivery 30-40 days after order confirmation. Raw materials used include AS and ABS.
"International safety certificates are obtained for our products, in accordance with customers' requirements. We can offer full CS and CE certification," says Leung.
Winkler Industrial Co Ltd, established in 1985, produces electronic items, thermometers and clocks. The company also has a new product that falls into the healthcare category - a handy massager.
"Model RU-100, Relax Up, is a new product designed to improve blood circulation and bring relief for muscle pain," says marketing executive Felix Leung. "It can be used anywhere on the body, has built-in electronics powered by alkaline batteries, a plastic housing and a metal tip."
With an FOB Hong Kong unit price of US$2.95, a minimum order for the RU-100 is 3,000 pieces for delivery 40-50 days after order confirmation. Winkler sources the electronics on the mainland, near its 400-worker, 6,000-square-metre factory in Shenzhen.
Clearly, for healthcare products of the highest quality at the best price, it is hard to beat Hong Kong.
