Air purifiers from Faith Care Ltd help keep the air clean and fresh, and can be used in the home or the car
People are now more health-conscious than ever; seeking a wide spectrum of products to maintain their well-being, from simple wooden massagers that stimulate circulation to hi-tech sensor devices to monitor health.
Typifying this trend, Bioland Technology Ltd offers a range of 14 sophisticated personal healthcare massagers and medical devices such as blood pressure and glucose monitors. These are suitable for the home and hospital markets.
The company produces its own Bioland brand and accepts OEM and ODM orders at its ISO 13485-certified, 5,000-square-metre factory in Shenzhen on the Chinese mainland.
"Popular products are the 603F Tapping Massager with Far Infrared Heater, which helps relieve pain and accelerate the body's metabolism, and the TENS Massager with Body Fat Meter," says spokesperson Jess Lee.
"The Body Fat Meter reads a person's Body Fat Index (BFI) by simply pressing a thumb on the metal pads provided. It also has a useful alarm clock, responding to consumer desires for multifunction products."
Lee says the current trend is for blood pressure monitors. "Especially now that one can do this in the comfort of the home." Furthermore, once bulky devices are now small, neat and stylish, such as the wrist-type blood pressure monitors.
Lee says that women have helped increase sales of home massagers, especially the TENS machines. "Ladies use these machines to tighten the muscles," she explains. "While our smaller-than-palm size TENS massager provides easy portability."
Europe takes more than 50% of Bioland's exports, which meet CE and UL safety standards. Other important markets include Taiwan and Hong Kong.
FOB Hong Kong (or Shenzhen) unit prices for the model 604 Electronic Massager (for delicate areas) range from about US$1.50-2.50. The Far Infrared Tapping Massager costs about US$14.50-15.50. A minimum order is 1,000 pieces for delivery 30 days after order confirmation.
Servicing a more traditional market, Champion Handiwork Co specialises in natural wooden and sponge bathroom accessories and body care items. The company offers numerous styles of wooden massagers, brushes and mirrors, natural loofahs and sisal sponges, combs, bath toys and cosmetic bags.
Products are manufactured at associate factories on the Chinese mainland - in Shanghai, Hangzhou and Ningbo - and sell for prices in the US$0.10-3.00 range FOB Shanghai. The minimum order value is US$3,000 for delivery within 35 days of order confirmation.
Champion's top markets are Europe, with more than 50% of business, and the US, with 40%, according to manager Darge Lam.
"Our products are popular because they are made of natural materials and are excellent for stimulating blood circulation to the skin," claims Lam. "They also make excellent gifts, and we produce attractive gift sets and baskets."
Heading in a more hi-tech direction is Anson Nanotechnology Group Co Ltd, which produces medical, sanitary and textile products using nano-silver technology to produce such items as antimicrobial socks, antimicrobial gel and antibacterial facemasks.
Nano-silver is a key ingredient and has high antibacterial activity, claims chief executive officer Ricky Chan. "Authoritative institutions have verified nano-silver's exceptional sterilising effects on common bacteria, stubborn bacteria and epiphytes," Chan maintains.
He asserts that Anson's US and mainland-patented socks can promote blood circulation, deodorise feet, stop itchiness, prevent ringworm, speed healing and prevent skin dryness.
"Special features include the ability to endure repeated washing without losing the antibacterial function, and enhanced sterilisation when in contact with sweat," Chan claims. "They also help prevent diabetic foot conditions."
Products are manufactured at a 2,000-square-metre, 35-worker factory in Shenzhen and sold on the mainland and in Hong Kong. Exports go to Taiwan and Vietnam.
Similarly innovative is Sinomax (Holding) Group Ltd, which specialises in the manufacture of pillows, mattresses, sponge products, massage cushions and massage chairs.
Many of the products produced at the company's six factories on the mainland use memory foam, which is temperature and pressure sensitive.
"Consumers like the tailor-made comfort and support of memory foam, which shapes itself to the body's weight and contours," says marketing manager Queenie Yue.
The company has recently launched a new-shaped My Beauty Pillow, with concave sides. "This fits the contours of the face when sleeping on the side and can help reduce the formation of wrinkles," claims Yue.
Sinomax manufactures the My Beauty Pillow and other products such as Wondrous Pillow, U-shaped Travel Pillow, Seat Cushion and Comfort Seat Cushion on the mainland.
The 18-year-old, ISO 9001-certified firm has subsidiary offices in the US and Canada and six factories on the mainland. The largest plant, in Dongguan, is 162,000 square metres in area and employs 1,000 workers.
"We manufacture under our own Sinomax brand name and on an OEM and ODM basis," Yue explains. She adds that products meet US and European standards, a factor that has undoubtedly helped penetrate global markets in general and the US in particular. "The US takes more than 50% of our output, followed by Japan."
It is the attention to such important criteria as safety, quality and competitive pricing that has made Hong Kong products the perfect tonic for consumers worldwide.
