|Among the main electrical kitchen items produced by KJI Industrial Ltd are table and hand blenders and juicers with high quality chrome-brush finishing|
No longer considered just necessities, kitchenware today says as much about an individual's style and taste as it does about his or her culinary habits. To keep up with market demands, suppliers need to stay at the cutting-edge of product design and functionality. Hong Kong manufacturers excel at staying up with market trends, often creating them, so make perfect partners.
For example, 1964-established Bestron HK Ltd manufactures a selection of household electrical appliances and products. Hot items for the kitchen are a chocolate fountain, a doughnut maker and a pizza maker.
Of these, a particular favourite with overseas buyers is the pizza maker, model DLD9016, which allows the user to quickly cook a 30cm pizza complete with a crispy crust thanks to the oven brick feature. "It can also be used to grill, bake and heat food," says director Joe Fong.
Fong says that the products are designed in Holland and have a real European influence, with funky designs and items that are both practical and stylish. "We produce them at our factory on the mainland and all items have CE, GS, TUV, RoHs and BS compliance," he adds.
"They are usually sold under the Bestron brand and are highly popular in Europe and Asia." The minimum order is 500 items for delivery 60-75 days after confirmation of order.
Another long-time player is Hung Sang Metal Plastic Fty (Int'l) Ltd, which has been manufacturing an extensive range of kitchenware since 1958.
"Our capability to process quality products from different materials, such as plastic, high-grade stainless steel and zinc alloy, using die-cast and silicone pressing techniques, enables us to attract a wide range of customers," says general manager Isabella Lee.
"We tailor-make products according to the budget and other requirements of our OEM and ODM customers," she adds. "This strategy has resulted in us maintaining a long list of highly-satisfied international clients for more than 40 years."
The company's range includes more than 1,000 items for the kitchen: from silicone ware to oil sprays and storage containers, and an extensive selection of items that dice, chop, slice and peel.
A classic example is The Gourmet Wizard (model 2009), which juices, quarters, cores, slices, dices, chops, mashes, rices, minces, extrudes and more. The item comes with 21 attachments and is priced at US$14.50 per set FOB Hong Kong. "This item is very popular because of its versatility," says Lee.
The minimum order is 3,000 pieces for delivery 35 days after order confirmation. The company's Shenzhen factory has a monthly production capacity of 100,000 pieces. "We have more than 1,800 skilled workers, more than 300 modern production machines and a 30-person R&D team," says Lee.
Hung Sang sells its products under four brands: Posh Gear, L'Atelier, Kitchen Club and Bella Maison, and its major markets are the UK, Germany, France, the US and Japan.
Germany, France, the US and the UK are also the main markets for 1999-established KJI Industrial Ltd, which manufactures electrical kitchen items such as blenders, knives, mixers, juicers and choppers.
Three of the company's best-selling items are model KJ-1201HB table blender, model KJ-1101M hand blender and model KJ-1007 juicer. "These are new items in good demand because of the combination of high quality chrome-brush finishing, innovative design with advanced features and high product quality," comments general manager Jessie Ling, adding that the products are also available in red.
Home Culture is the company's brand name, and its products are made at a 33,000 square metre, 1,200-worker, ISO 14000-certified factory on the mainland. The monthly production capacity depends on the product. "For example, we can produce 420,000 hand blenders in a month," says Ling.
The minimum order is one FEU per model. "In the case of a customer wanting to test a product in their market," Ling advises, "we will consider one TEU." Delivery is 30-45 days after confirmation and the company introduces about eight new items each year, all of which are designed in-house.
Meanwhile, Cosso Int'l Ltd has a minimum order requirement of 3,000 pieces for its range of choppers, slicers, graters and revolving food processors.
Popular models include the Easy Food Slicer (CS02) and the Revolving Food Processor (CS08FS), both of which were introduced in 2006.
"One feature of both products is that the grating platform has been designed for easy cleaning and clog-free grating, while all blades are made of stainless steel," says marketing manager Johnny Chow.
"We also believe that one of the current and future trends in kitchenware is the fun, safe and efficient preparation of food using quality items and our products reflect this trend," he adds.
Chow says the company introduces several new products each year, usually a result of extensive market research, customer feedback and in-house brainstorming.
Cosso has a 5,000-square-metre factory in Dongguan on the mainland that can produce some 30,000 items each month. These are usually available for delivery 25 days after order confirmation. Established in 1992, the firm's main markets are the EU, the US, Japan and Eastern Europe, and all products are sold under the Cosso brand name.
With the help of Hong Kong manufacturers, buyers will find an impressive range of kitchenware for all tastes and budgets.
