|Europe is the major market for Power Guard Industrial Co Ltd's classic-style wooden and silver-plated photo frame products|
Photo frames and albums are highly popular worldwide even in these days of digital images. Accordingly, the response of Hong Kong manufacturers is to continue to provide excellent variety and quality at competitive prices.
Among them is Power Guard Industrial Co Ltd, established in 1989 as a specialist in silver-plated photo frames in a variety of sizes and designs. "Having been in the business now for 17 years, we are very well versed in silver plating techniques," remarks marketing executive Raymond Lam. "Photo frames, photo albums and some clock items are our main lines."
Frame sizes range from a 4x5cm super-mini series up to a large 25x30cm set. "Apart from silver plate, these frames are available in several other finishes including solid brass, pearl-silver and all kinds of antique colours," says Lam. "Other options include wooden frames if requested by buyers."
Power Guard has more than 500 designs to choose from, and the company is also willing to work closely with clients. "For example, we could replace the normal see-through glass with mirrored glass," Lam explains.
Minimum orders are subject to negotiation, while delivery time is 45-60 days after order confirmation. Major markets include Europe, especially Greece, Italy, Spain and the UK, and production takes place at the firm's 15,000-square-metre, 800-worker factory in Shenzhen on the Chinese mainland.
Promising variety and designs in keeping with modern tastes, 2001-established Tri-Effort Int'l Ltd is right in the picture. The fledgling firm is already exporting to the US, Europe and Asia.
"We manufacture photo frames from plastic, wood, aluminium and glass," says marketing manager Christina Chan. "Aluminium models are highly popular, followed by medium density fibreboard (MDF), while our wood-of-choice is paulownia."
With market demand changing almost day-to-day, she feels it is important to keep up momentum by offering new items. "We also look for ideas that add value to the traditional photo frame," she insists.
The minimum order requirement is 5,000 pieces, but Chan says the final figure is flexible. Delivery time is 45-60 days after order confirmation and production takes place at the firm's three-floor, 120-worker factory in Dongguan on the mainland.
Business is also humming along steadily for 2000-established Habika (Hang Fung) Mfy Co Ltd. The firm offers a selection of photo frames and albums in an assortment of shapes - from a plain rectangle to a highly decorative butterfly rendition. There is a variety of finishes including silver plate.
"We use aluminium, PVC, leather and MDF," says manager Angus Cheung. "We change our design portfolio each year, and bring out items in different colour themes. The most popular items today are aluminium frames, which are generally cheaper than MDF or leather versions."
The minimum order value is US$5,000 per shipment for delivery 35-45 days after order confirmation. Major markets are the US, Australia, the UK, Germany and Japan, and production takes place at a 150,000-square-foot, 600-worker factory in Shenzhen. Raw materials are sourced from the US, Korea and the mainland.
Chin Fai Paper Product Ltd, established 1998, is an ODM/OEM manufacturer that runs an ISO 9001-certified printing and packaging factory. The company produces coloured paper boxes, corrugated boxes and blister cards, along with other printed cards and packaging and a line of photo frames and albums.
"We produce fabric and paper frames and albums," says assistant business development manager Tracy Lai. "Some of our fabrics are imported from the US and so the quality is assured."
A new product is the E'lbum series, which was designed especially to cater to owners of digital cameras and to catch the wave of the big trend in digital photography.
"The E'lbum series allows users to import digital images into a word processor, write the desired text and print out the pages on especially prepared paper that we supply," Lai explains.
This completely new and innovative idea is now hitting the counters in the US, the UK and Japan, and Lai says all the paper used is acid-free so that the finished pages will last a long time without yellowing. "There are also easy-to-read instructions on how to fold the paper," she adds.
The minimum order requirement is generally 1,000 units or sets depending on the item. Delivery time is 14-30 days after order confirmation, and the firm's main markets are the US, the UK, France, Germany, Australia and Japan.
Using raw materials from the US and the mainland, production takes place at a 10,000-square-metre factory in Dongguan that employs 500 staff - including fully 400 engaged in R&D, engineering, manufacturing and quality control.
Whether it's a traditional photo frame or a specialised album for the exciting world of digital photography, Hong Kong is right in the picture.
