Photo Frames & Albums(HKTDC Enterprise, Vol 01,2005)
Seven-year-old Dynamic Rich Ltd is one company that specialises in putting fun into displaying pictures. "Our frames and albums are deliberately expressive, colourful and lively," claims senior manager Andy Huang.
He adds that the Disney-qualified company mainly manufactures OEM and licensed products based on Disney and Warner Brothers characters. "We simultaneously also innovate and develop products based on popular movie and TV characters, which we submit to clients for reference."
Clients are able to adapt these ideas to meet their own specifications. "We can change the colours and embossed characters on our hand-finished photo frames at very short notice," adds Huang.
Dynamic Rich's photo frames are made from vinyl and ABS with cardboard backing, and are complemented by the photo albums the firm also produces, along with key chains, novelty items and a range of stationery products.
"Our user-friendly photo albums answer photo-storage concerns beautifully," Huang maintains, noting that albums are crafted of non-phthalate vinyl for safe viewing free from the emissions that cause precious pictures to deteriorate.
All Dynamic Rich products are produced by 600 workers at a factory in Nanhei, Guangdong Province, on the Chinese mainland. The plant can deliver orders comprising less than 5,000 pieces within 30 days, and orders in excess of 5,000 pieces within 45 days. FOB Hong Kong unit prices range from US$1.10-1.50 per photo frame depending on the complexity of the pattern and design.
Another company that wastes no opportunity to keep up with the latest market trends is Habika (Hang Fung) Mfy Co Ltd. "We specialise in producing high quality, trendy photo frames and photo albums," says manager Angus Cheung. "We continually introduce new in-house designs that keep pace with market trends and our clients' requirements."
The nine-year-old company manufactures photo frames made from leatherette, plastic, wood and aluminium with fibreboard backing. "Our main lines are aluminium and wood frames inlaid with polyresin or embossed designs," Cheung adds. "These are popular in the US, Japan, the Middle East and Europe."
Monthly production of 200,000 items, which also include photo albums in a variety of colours and finishes that hold up to 80 prints, takes place at a 20,000-square-foot factory in Shenzhen on the mainland. Some 250 workers produce minimum orders worth US$3,000 for delivery 35-45 days after order confirmation.
Those who like to display their photographs in classic frames will love the items produced by Sea-God Art Co. The ISO 9001-certified company specialises in producing classically designed frames in wood and plastic, using wood sourced from the US and New Zealand.
"We work closely with our clients to ensure that we are in tune with market demands," says Shirley Cheung, manager of the five-year-old company. "Classic designs in black and natural wood command the most interest in our main markets of Europe, Japan and the Middle East."
New designs are introduced each month to add to a production output that can reach almost one million items per month. "We take pride in producing high volumes, while paying close attention to quality," adds Cheung.
Frames are produced by 500 workers at a 30,000-square-foot factory in Guangdong Province on the Chinese mainland. Minimum order value is US$8,000 per shipment, with delivery 45-60 days following order confirmation.
Lai So Kee Timber Mfg Co Ltd is also committed to the beauty of wood, having been making high quality wooden photo frames as well as memo boards, cork boards and clipboards for almost 20 years.
"We only work with wood," explains director Corinna Lai, "and use a lot of pine imported from Chile and New Zealand."
A number of clients use the frames as gift items, so maintaining a better balance between costs and quality, which is an important issue. "Over the years, we have developed close relationships with many of our clients and understand their needs," Lai claims, adding: "We apply the same attention to customer relationships with our new clients."
Lai So Kee Timber employs 450 workers at an 11,000-square-metre factory in Guangdong Province, which can deliver minimum order values of US$5,000 some 45-60 days after confirmation.
With Hong Kong manufacturers offering such a wide variety of photo display options, framing and displaying precious moments captured on camera couldn't be easier.
