Expectations Run High For 2003 Stationery Fair
The Hong Kong International Stationery Fair is recognized worldwide as an industry platform for generating new business.
EXHIBITORS from around the world are already making preparations to impress prospective buyers with the latest stationery and office products, as the successful Hong Kong International Stationery Fair returns to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on January 7-10, 2003.
"While 2003 is only the third edition of the International Stationery Fair, the event has achieved remarkable growth already in terms of exhibitor numbers," says senior exhibitions manager Anne Chick of Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC).
At the 2002 edition of the fair, 156 exhibitors representing 14 countries and regions proved they had strong pulling power. Attracting some 15,452 buyers, the four-day event recorded a 31% increase over the previous year.
More than 40% of these visitors flew in for the fair from 105 countries and regions, reflecting its international acceptance as an industry platform for generating new business.
Expectations are even higher for the coming fair. "We anticipate there being more than 170 exhibitors from 14 countries and regions in 2003, which is over 20% more than in 2002. We also expect about 16,000 visitors this year," says Chick.
Co-organized by the TDC and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, Hong Kong's only trade show for the stationery and office products sector is run concurrently with the Hong Kong Toys and Games Fair - the largest toys and games industry event in Asia.
"Being held at the same time as the Hong Kong Toys and Games Fair makes the Stationery Fair a unique one-stop sourcing point for buyers. It is also a great place to catch up with industry colleagues, renew old contacts or make new ones," points out Chick.
The licensing seminar scheduled for the second day of the fair is expected to prove extremely popular.
A strong showing in the group pavilions is expected from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, with each expected to bring more than 20 exhibitors in their respective delegations.
Pavilions from Korea and Thailand will also be present. "Korea has been in the international spotlight this year as host of a successful World Cup, and is experiencing a demand for Korean products," Chick notes.
Manufacturer Tae Yang IS Co Ltd (Korea), a producer of licensed stationery souvenirs for the World Cup, has been coming to the Hong Kong fair since 2001. "We find the stationery fair an effective platform to make new business contacts and to showcase the world of international buyers," says manager Ro Seoung Chuel.
In 2002, the Thailand pavilion saw the participation of 22 companies, a 57% increase on the previous year, as Thai paper products makers flocked to Hong Kong to showcase their wares.
According to Haritsai Kawratanan, manager of Havar Intertrade, a maker of natural, handmade paper products, "We would like to expand our customer base and that's why we participate in international trade shows. We picked this event because it is very well organized and the most prominent stationery fair in the region."
Apart from being able to view a comprehensive range of the latest products from around the world, participants are privy to market intelligence through seminars held during the fair.
"Whereas in 2002 the topic was marketing, in 2003 the licensing business and the opportunities available will be under the spotlight at a licensing seminar to be held on the second day of the fair," says Chick.
