Philip Lo & Co Ltd offers a full range of bar accessories including this stainless steel, three-piece bar set
EVERY wine drinker has experienced that struggle to open a bottle of wine, only to have the cork come apart and dislodge scraps into the wine or get stuck in the neck of the bottle. Fortunately, Hong Kong manufacturers have patented new types of cork removers that help reduce those awkward moments. These items, plus innovations like stainless steel glasses and ornamental wine stoppers, are invaluable to home entertainers and bar owners alike.
Stainless steel products specialist Cirlite Ltd, for example, offers a wide range of bar accessories. "We sell very well in the US, the UK and Germany because our prices are 50% lower than those for products made in those countries while our quality is equally high," says marketing manager Joe Chan. "We have many new ideas and our products have three functions: useful in public bars, the home or as gifts."
Established in 1981, the company has seen steadily increasing sales worldwide. "In 2003, sales rose 25% and we hope to add to that this year," says Chan. "Our stainless steel cocktail shakers in traditional shapes are very popular with bartenders while we also offer some in the shape of rockets. Our sets of bar tools, for cutting and shaping garnishes for drinks, like lemons or olives, also sell very well."
Monthly production is 12-15 FEUs, and the minimum order size is one TEU. Delivery time after order confirmation is 45-60 days.
"We use fine quality stainless steel from Japan," says Chan. "Our modern factory in mainland Guangdong Province covers 8,000 square metres and employs 280 workers. We manufacture under our own brand name Cirlite, and to the specification of customers wishing to use their own brands." Prices are available on request.
Kitchenware specialist Technical (HK) Mfg Ltd introduced professional corkscrews and sundry wine products into its daily production in 2000, a move that has earned it plaudits.
"Our corkscrews make opening a bottle of wine a pleasure. To date, multi-millions of our professional corkscrews and cork lifters have sold and we have earned encouraging recognition from experts in the industry," says company representative Echo Poon.
"Our trademarks, such as Technical and EZ Pull, are guarantees of quality, while many of our products are presented in handsome cases and are suitable as gifts," she adds.
According to Poon, the company is moving towards including innovative elements into its product line, such as a digital cocktail jigger and an electronic wine thermometer. FOB Hong Kong prices are available on request.
Major markets are the US and Europe. Production takes place at its factory in Shenzhen on the Chinese mainland that covers 15,000 square metres and employs 1,300 workers. Monthly production of bar accessories is 200,000 items and a minimum order is 2,000 pieces. Delivery time is 30-40 days after an order is confirmed.
Over at the Hunter Group Ltd, marketing manager Gordon Tse says this year the firm will be concentrating on improving its own brand name products, Prima Series and Vino. He says the Hunter Group, in business since 1978, has built its reputation on manufacturing under customers' brand names, and while "we still do this, now we also promote our own names with greater success".
"We have introduced many new innovations that sell well," adds Tse. "Our wine stoppers are lacquer-coated and are shaped like the heads of animals for novelty. These are very popular."
About 75% of sales come from the US and Europe. "We encourage customers to visit our factory in Shenzhen which employs 1,000 workers under ideal conditions. Our office and showroom in Hong Kong occupies 20,000 square feet and showcases a wide variety of products," says Tse.
Monthly production is 100,000-200,000 per model, while a minimum order is 2,000 units for delivery within 45 days of order confirmation. Prices are obtainable against enquiry.
Established in l975 as a family business, Lee Yuen Housewares Co Ltd has grown into a large-scale manufacturing and export firm of household and kitchenware, including bar accessories.
"Our bar utensils are tailor-made for the enjoyment of wine and cocktails while our stainless steel glasses, which keep drinks cool, are unbreakable and hygienic," says company spokesperson Irene Ngai. "Our Bartini Time range includes innovative corkscrews, decanting funnels, wine bottle holders and cocktail shakers."
The company can produce custom-made utensils for customers and supply packaging to their requirements, she adds.
An affiliated factory in mainland Dongguan produces an average of 4,000-5,000 pieces of each model per month. A minimum order is 1,000 pieces or sets of each item, and delivery time is 45-50 days after order confirmation. Major markets are Europe, North America and Asia.
"Our core raw material is 18/8 stainless steel, mostly imported from Japan, Korea or Thailand," Ngai says. "Also, our products received a Merit Award at the Hong Kong Original Products Design Competition." Prices are obtainable on application.
Hong Kong clearly says 'cheers' and helps buyers raise their glasses high to toast new business opportunities.
