Practical yet stylish premiums bags have that magic "reusable" factor that is crucial to forging a strong connection between brands and consumers
Bags are popular choices for companies looking for premiums items, and Hong Kong manufacturers are highly skilled when it comes to supplying a large range of chic and quality choices.
Hong Kong premiums manufacturers offer an exhaustive range that runs the gamut from shopping bags, cosmetic cases and travel bags to wine bottle holders, picnic and cooler bags.
A classic example is 1988-established Promotional Bags Mfr Ltd, which offers a gargantuan selection, including many items of original design and patent.
"We are specialists in the manufacture and export of all kinds of bags, such as travel bags, backpacks, cosmetics bags, cooler bags, school bags, handbags and wallets for promotion, premium and give-away purposes," says Managing Director Janet Cham. "The bags are made from nylon, PVC, polyester, cotton and satin, mainly sourced from Taiwan, Korea and the Chinese mainland."
Among the popular choices are polyester picnic cooler bags that keep food and beverages cool or warm, and are available in various sizes and colours. One 47.5x23x25cm model is unit-priced at US$5.80 FOB Hong Kong, while another measuring 26x15x30cm costs US$2.30.
The firm exports bags bearing its own Promotion brand to Europe, which comprises 60 % of sales, while other key markets include the US, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and Australia.
"We produce more than 3,000 types of bags carrying the Promotion brand in different colour combinations and styles, and we introduce 30 new items quarterly," says Ms Cham.
One new original design is a pack-and-carry model. "It is suitable for all kinds of items, such as food, clothing, books - even toys - and the size can be adjusted by a hook-and-loop tape," Ms Cham notes, adding that Promotional believes this product will set a new trend for the premiums and promotions market.
Monthly production capacity at its 50,000-square-foot factory is 800,000 bags and the minimum order is 1,000 units for delivery 25-30 days after order confirmation. "Our customers are mainly exporters, importers, and promotion and advertising agencies," Ms Cham reveals. "We have produced bags for major names such as Mercedes Benz, Toyota, Pepsi, Walt Disney, Coca-Cola and Ford."
Another active industry player, JCL Holdings Ltd, focuses on premiums bags for customers who need beauty, bath and spa product bags as well as travel bags.
A current favourite with customers is a cosmetics bag range made from translucent PVC, which comes in a variety of colours including blue, green, pink, white, orange and purple.
The range is unit-priced at US$0.30-1.00 FOB Hong Kong, depending on the size, with the smallest measuring 17x6.3x18cm and the largest 26x4.5x24cm. "We can produce many different styles of bags from a range of materials depending on the customer's design and requirements," claims Director Joey Chong.
Europe and the US are the main markets of the company, which was established in 1998. "Europe will show the most growth in the next 12 months," Ms Chong predicts.
Using raw materials sourced predominately from the mainland, JCL's Xiamen factory has a monthly production capacity of 50,000 bags. New items are introduced every three months, Ms Chong says.
"In addition to colourful PVC products, there is also a trend towards drawstring bags made from organza in gold and white," she notes, adding that the minimum order is 5,000 bags delivered 60 days after confirmation.
Lee Premium Ltd delivers its range of premiums products, which includes garments and caps, inflatables, bar and beverage items, and bags, 30-45 days after confirmation.
The firm uses "hundreds" of mainland manufacturers instead of operating its own factory. "We are not limited by the restraints felt by companies that only have their own manufacturing facility," explains Director William Huang. "Instead we are able to simultaneously source a wide range of products made from an extensive selection of materials, which attracts and suits our customers who don't care about price but want top quality and extensive variety."
The 1996-founded company counts Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and the US as its main markets. "The minimum order quantity depends on the product itself and the price is determined by the quantity ordered and materials selected," Mr Huang says. "One of our core strengths is our very quick turnaround in sample production - we have more than 100 workers producing samples."
He adds that in addition to meeting particular product requests, customers are welcome to approach Lee Premium with a theme, from which the company will develop bag ideas. "A current hot seller is a faux neoprene wine cooler with double bottle options," Mr Huang says.
For quality and variety, premiums buyers need look no further than Hong Kong, where they will certainly be able to bag the best buys.
