Everyone looks forward to a good night's sleep, and the wide range of bedding products available from Hong Kong companies should make that experience even more enjoyable.
Brand-name bedding specialist Casablanca Int'l Ltd is a leading manufacturer offering 100% cotton sheets, pillow cases, quilt covers, quilts, blankets, mattresses and cushions.
Established in 1993, the company is known for its strikingly colourful printed designs. "Our designs are very European in appearance as many of our ideas come from European fashions and historical buildings, mainly from the Renaissance," says sales executive Lydia Wu.
The company can also accommodate embroidery requests, with one popular seller featuring strong graphic design. "The contrasting colours and stripes on the reverse side have made it a favourite for the past two years," says Wu.
About 80% of the ISO 9001- and ISO 14001-certified firm's products carry its own Casablanca brand name, with ODM accounting for the remainder of production.
Wu says the retail market in Hong Kong absorbs about 80% of the company's production of 45,000 pieces per month from its factory in Guangdong Province on the Chinese mainland, while the balance is earmarked for export to the US, Canada and India.
Minimum order is 100 sets per pattern per size and delivery time after order confirmation is 30-45 days.
There are bedding solutions to suit every budget and need from hotel supplier Kingsway Hotel & Novelties Supplies (HK) Ltd. The company's product range includes bed sheets, pillow cases, duvets, duvet covers and pillows as well as pillow and mattress protectors.
Customers can choose from a variety of fabrics, such as combed cotton, polyester or a combination of the two, available in plain white, dyed colours or colour printing.
"We mostly handle OEM orders, although we are slowly getting into retail sales," says sales coordinator Peter Wong, adding that fabrics are sourced on the mainland.
Both flat and fitted bed sheets form the 32-year-old family-owned company's best-selling items. "Our beige, satin-striped sheet, duvet cover and pillow case set, for example, is 100% cotton with a 260 thread count," says Wong. "The stripes can be ordered in 1cm or 3cm widths, and the price for a set (duvet cover, one sheet and two pillow cases) is US$14-20 FOB Hong Kong for twin/king sizes."
For minimum order requirements, the company uses the set components mentioned or two pillow cases and two sheets, and the minimum order is 500 sets for delivery 40-60 days after order confirmation. Main markets are Asia, Europe and the Caribbean.
Meanwhile, only the best for baby will do at CST Corp Ltd. The company manufactures comforters, pillows, baby bumpers and bed sheets in cotton or polyester for infants and babies up to three years old. Its brand name 03 baby reflects that concept.
CST Corp plans to make a big push this year to expand its export markets, now primarily in Asia, to Europe. "We would like to explore markets in the UK and Germany," says manager Danny Yuen, adding that the firm expects to participate in more trade fairs this year.
The firm introduces 6-7 new collections per year and holds the UK licence for Peter Rabbit characters. Animal figures are popular as are blue, yellow and pink backgrounds, Yuen says.
The complete Peter Rabbit baby bed set (comforter, pillow, baby bumper and bed sheet) is made of 100% cotton and priced at US$23 FOB Hong Kong, while polyester bed sets are US$20.
Minimum order is 300 sets, although individual pieces can be ordered separately. Delivery is 60 days after order confirmation.
A traditional Chinese game was the inspiration for a novel Bedgames duvet cover from 3Plus1 Creation Co Ltd. The brightly coloured cover has been transformed into a playing surface for the board game, which can accommodate 2-4 players and is geared for teenagers and families. Made of 100% cotton, the cover comes with soft PVC game pieces and dice.
"The aim is to go from a corner of the cover to the centre. The first one to get to the centre wins," explains Tommy Ng, owner/designer of the gifts and premiums lifestyle company.
Introduced in 2004, the Bedgames cover is a strong retail and premium item in Hong Kong. "It has been quite popular with banks," says Ng.
The item sells for HK$250 FOB Hong Kong per set for a king-sized cover with two matching pillow cases. "The design is very attractive even if people don't want to play," Ng says.
Minimum order size is 300 sets, for delivery 25-35 days after order confirmation. The firm hopes to expand its market for the duvet cover to Taiwan, Singapore and Japan. Future plans also call for adding more games to the Bedgames concept - either established games or new ideas created by the company.
Such comforting and comfortable bedding products from Hong Kong may be just the things to keep business well and truly covered.
