Bar Accessories(HKTDC Gifts, Premium & Stationery, Vol 02,2006)
|Ming Hing Mfg Co Ltd's stylish bar accessories are exported to Europe, the US and the Middle East|
Using the correct accessories to make cocktails or serve and store wine is a must for maximum enjoyment of any drink, whether at home or in a bar.
Essential gadgets such as openers, stoppers, glasses, cocktail shakers, ice buckets, knives, stirring spoons and wine or cocktail sets are all readily available from a host of Hong Kong manufacturers, many of whom have extensive experience in supplying stylish barware that can also be used as effective promotional tools.
Take, for example, Ming Hing Mfg Co Ltd, which has more than 40 years' experience in manufacturing stainless steel and metalware. "We have a strong reputation for quality, timely delivery and focus on building strong relationships with customers," claims marketing manager Liza Leung.
Ming Hing's latest range of indispensable items for the well-stocked bar includes stylish ice buckets, tongs, cocktail stirrers and bottle stoppers, made from nickel- or silver-plated zinc alloy.
They are produced at the company's 3,500-square-foot, 450-worker factory in Guangzhou on the Chinese mainland, which produces approximately 50,000 items a month. "We introduce new products twice a year and also welcome OEM orders," Leung advises.
Ming Hing requires minimum orders of 1,000 pieces, which are delivered 35-40 days after confirmation. "Our main markets are the US and Europe," Leung adds.
Sharing the same main markets is Hang Lee Products Mfr Ltd, which offers an extensive range of bar accessories, bar sets and wine sets for all budgets.
The 17-year-old company's elegant, wooden-boxed wine sets range from a simple professional bottle opener to sophisticated collections that include an opener, stopper, pourer, foil cutter and space for a bottle of wine.
Sales development executive Josephine Lee notes that Hang Lee also produces boxed cocktail sets that can include a shaker, measure and a guide to common cocktails.
"The boxed sets are very popular especially among customers in the supermarket and advertising industries," she explains, adding that Hang Lee mainly targets the gifts and premiums market.
The company produces 50,000 items per month at its 20,000-square-foot mainland factory in Shunde for delivery 10 days after confirmation of a minimum order of 500 units.
"We introduce new products every two months and understand the needs of our customers and their markets, producing high quality items at reasonable prices," Lee claims.
Attractive stainless steel cocktail sets and individual accessories are also big sellers for newcomer Steelfield Co Ltd, which has only been in business since 2004 but seeks to distinguish itself through its design, quality and price combination.
"Our products are trendy in design and the quality of the workmanship is high, yet they have a low-end price point and are therefore very appealing to our growing customer base of brand-name companies and distributors," claims marketing manager Ellen Wong.
She says Steelfield's most popular items are bar tool sets, which can include strainers, measures, stirring utensils, bottle openers, tongs and stoppers.
Some models have handy stands to hold the bar tools, while one recently-introduced set features a cocktail shaker, strainer, measure, tongs, stirring spoon and bottle opener.
The company's four-floor factory in Shenzhen on the mainland employs 50-100 workers, who produce 200,000 items a month that range in unit price from US$0.50 FOB Hong Kong for small items up to US$10 per item for larger pieces.
Steelfield requires minimum orders of 500 pieces, which are delivered 14 days after confirmation. "The main market for our products is Europe, which accounts for approximately 60% of business," Wong notes. "Our other key market is the US."
The US is also the biggest market for Courtesy Ltd, which manufactures corkscrews, foil cutters, wine collars, wine tags, champagne pliers and wine-preserving sets as well as a wide variety of wine stoppers and pourers.
Typical of Courtesy's output is the 2-in-1 wine pump stopper model EM04 that draws air out from the wine bottle to prolong its freshness while also acting as a stopper. "This is by far the most popular stopper and is a hot-selling item," says director Calvin Leung.
Courtesy produces 20,000-50,000 units of the EM04 and a myriad other items a month for markets including Europe, Australia, South Africa and South America. "Our customers include wholesalers, department stores and wineries," Leung adds. "Our minimum order value is US$2,500 and delivery is 35-40 days after confirmation."
Top Collection Int'l Development Ltd specialises in the manufacture of elegant glassware, including wine, martini, cognac, mixed drink, soft drink and shot glasses.
"While we currently focus on glassware we will be introducing other bar items this year - for example stainless steel bar tools," general manager Daniel Tsang reveals.
The six-year-old company sources glass from the mainland to produce 100,000 pieces of each model a month for export to Europe, the US and Japan.
Top Collection delivers 45-60 days after confirmation of minimum orders of 2,400-5,000 pieces - depending on the model - at FOB Hong Kong prices ranging from US$0.50-1.00 a glass.
Whatever buyers' tastes, Hong Kong manufacturers will ensure that their glass is always full when it comes to the competitive bar accessories market.
