Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair
Ross Thompson is one buyer who is convinced that the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair is a "not-to-be-missed" event in the international gifts and premiums trade show calendar.
The president of International Gift Corp (IGC), the oldest and largest network of premiums companies in the world whose combined annual business sales total more than US$500m, was highly delighted with the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair 2006.
"We came with our biggest-ever delegation - including more than 100 representatives of our members - to meet existing suppliers, build relationships, discuss new projects and find new ideas," said Thompson. "At the Hong Kong fair, you have the latest designs and the most innovative products - we always find good things here."
His sentiments were undoubtedly shared by the more than 54,000 visitors from 137 countries and regions who also attended the highly successful 2006 show.
They came to see the exciting array of irresistible products offered by 3,879 exhibitors from 35 countries and regions, a 10% increase over the previous year.
Little wonder then that TDC senior exhibitions manager Anne Chick expects the 2007 event at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from April 28 - May 1 will prove a runaway success.
"It's not only the biggest event of its kind in Asia, it ranks as the second-largest in the world and we hope to continue to attract more visitors and exhibitors," she observes. "The fair gives exhibitors an ideal platform for showcasing the latest innovations to buyers from Asia and around the world."
Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC), in cooperation with the Hong Kong Exporters' Association, the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair is renowned among buyers worldwide as a trade show that boasts the widest possible variety of categories and products.
Big-selling items on display this year will include advertising gifts and premiums, ceramic gifts, corporate gifts, fashion jewellery and accessories, paper and packaging, pictures and photo frames, silverware, stationery, toys and sporting goods and every other possible kind of gift and premium.
The 22nd fair in the series, the 2007 event will feature more than 4,200 booths and mark the return of two exciting themed zones - Kids' World in the new Expo Drive Hall and the Ladies' Gifts & Premium section.
The Expo Drive Hall's vast exhibition space - conveniently located at the main entrance along Expo Drive and equipped with professional lighting and ventilation - can accommodate hundreds of exhibitors and is a "must-see" for visitors.
The prestigious Hall of Fine Designs will be back with an extensive array of exhibitors showing distinctive, high-quality products aimed at the top end of the market.
Once again the emphasis will be on fine design and visitors to the premier section will find the highest quality merchandise, including leading design services companies.
Reflecting the international nature of the fair, there will again be pavilions from a variety of countries and regions such as Australia, the Chinese mainland, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and the UK; all of whom attended the 2006 event.
Their exhibitors will almost certainly be as pleased as Star Minen AG Writing Instruments from Switzerland, which was a first-time attendee at the 2006 fair.
"We are pleased to see that it had a good concentration of buyers from all over the world," said managing director Gisela Schmidt. "We met with many interested buyers and established contact with new customers."
Semk Products Ltd marketing manager C K Kwok was equally satisfied with the overall outcome of the 2006 fair. "It gave us the chance to release new products to customers," Kwok noted. "We were pleased with the support of the fair organiser and its promotional efforts as well as the fairground's decorations, while the exhibition centre's convenient location in the heart of the city also ensured successful sales."
The TDC will also organise buying missions comprising leading companies and VIP buyers, including representatives of major department stores and chain stores in the US, Europe and Japan.
Worldwide buying co-ops such as Promotional Products Association International, the International Gift Co and the International Partnership for Premiums and Gifts will again be invited to the forthcoming fair.
"This is a very well-organised, impressive and great fair - the scope of products and exhibitors is very good," Promotional Products Association International president Steve Slagle said. "Our association members always come here because they can find something new every time."
Busy buyers should, therefore, book their tickets now if they don't want to miss out on the premier buying event of the Asian sourcing season - the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair 2007.
Buyers keen to tap into the rising trend of environmentally-conscious consumers will find plenty of profitable products at the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair 2007.
Last year, for example, saw green & associates (HK) Ltd display creative, personalised promotional items made of natural materials such as lamb's-wool felt, recycled leather and cherry wood.
The 12-year-old company's "back-to-basics" V-15 line of stationery and desktop items are durable products with an earthy feel, while its photo frames vary from sleek, modern models to tactile, soft rubber and thermo-elastomer designs evoking a warm, comforting feeling.
"The Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair is a good opportunity to meet with old customers and create new contacts, as well as promote our new items," said marketing manager Denise Ng.
Meanwhile, Moroccan company Medidis S.A. specialises in wood products, including photo and picture frames, mirrors and furniture, which it exports to Europe and the Middle East.
The ISO 9001-certified manufacturer's products have been approved by the Programme for Endorsement of Forestry Certification and the Forest Stewardship Council, said general manager Khalid Bennis.
"This is our second time here and we find we can arrange meetings with most of our major customers, as well as having the opportunity to meet new clients coming from all over the world," Bennis added.
Similarly enthusiastic is De La Selva SA of Guatemala, which brought a collection of more than 30 new handicrafts made by the Mayan Indians of Central America to the 2006 fair.
"We have met some great contacts in Hong Kong - from the US to Australia - and we are very pleased that the quality and the story that accompanies handmade products are often preferred," director of marketing & sales Crystal Shafiabady noted.
Obviously, buyers seeking environmentally- friendly products that are becoming increasingly popular worldwide will be spoiled for choice when they visit the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair 2007.
