"In fact, we can attribute our rapid success to our strong resources and great flexibility," says Le Chino founder and director Kevin Lau. "We provide a one-stop solution to the needs of our global customers looking for exquisite and elegant gifts and attractive premiums."
Despite its enviable background, though, Lau says Le Chino, founded in 2001, still had to look for its own marketing opportunities. "The first two years were quite hard because many clients didn't know us and we had to invest a lot of time and effort in marketing," he recalls. "Even today, we are still eager to meet new clients face-to-face - especially at international fairs like the ones in Germany and Hong Kong."
Unlike its parent company, which has its focus set on high-end zinc alloy products, Le Chino prides itself on its diversity. "We use all sorts of materials," says Lau, "from zinc alloy, silicon rubber, wood and acrylic to wool and leather to make gifts and premiums suited to different budgets and market niches."
With its sales office and reliable materials suppliers in Hong Kong, Le Chino produces 700,000 items monthly at its ISO 9001-certified mainland factory in Shenzhen, which covers 300,000 square feet and provides accommodation and a canteen for its management and 2,100 workers.
"Our customers include brand owners, retailers and large corporations," says Lau. "About 60% of them are from Europe, another 30% from North America a??4??ond the rest from Australia, Dubai and Asian countries such as Japan and Singapore. We value our customers highly and often visit them to gain insights as to their needs."
Le Chino has a very wide product range. "We make card cases, household gadgets, clocks, atomisers, cufflinks, photo frames, games and luggage tags - you name it and we either make it or can make it for you - while stationery items are always popular choices," says Lau.
"We make use of silk-screen printing, laser engraving and other techniques to present clients' logos to best effect and position, while our 70-member in-house design and R&D team can always modify a design according to clients' requirements."
Highlighting the firm's professional approach, Lau proudly reveals that it was the recipient of the Hong Kong Exporters' Association 50th Anniversary Souvenir Design Competition prize for its beautifully crafted gift set comprising zinc alloy stationery items.
Apart from design, Lau emphasises that the company gives equal importance to product quality. "We have a laboratory that carries out stringent tests to ensure that products meet the very high safety and environmental standards required in different markets," he states.
Le Chino's least-expensive items are key chains, priced from US$0.30 each FOB Hong Kong. The minimum order requirement is 500 pieces per item, and turnaround time can be as short as 20-30 days after order confirmation even for large orders.
Besides enjoying strong support from its parent company in terms of both design and manufacture, Le Chino also has a sister company in the printing industry that can offer this ODM/OEM manufacturer’s clients the best and fastest packaging solutions at competitive prices.
"Our next goal is the Eastern European market and we will visit Poland next year," proclaims Lau, adding that the company is well-positioned to tap into this big, booming market, as 2006 will also see the group's new plant come into operation in Guangdong Province's Qingyuan.
"Apart from marketing, we send our designers overseas regularly to keep them abreast of the latest styles as product trends change very fast," Lau says. "But one thing that is sure to remain constant is our ample resources."
Just like the exciting gifts and premiums it makes, this energetic company has its sights set firmly on success.
