Decorative And Informative
Trio Labels Co Ltd produces a wide variety of hang tags using materials such as silicon, canvas or paper
Increasingly decorative in appearance, informative garment hang tags play a vital role educating shoppers. Flip the tag if you want to learn about the fabric and care of the garment you intend to buy. Top fibre, fabric and apparel makers also use hang tags to inform the public about the latest advances in technology.
Dupont, for example, offers free hang tags to any apparel maker using its fabrics. Hang tags also form a sector in which Hong Kong scores, producing them in factories on the Chinese mainland at a fraction of the cost of similar hang tags made in Europe or the US.
One hang tag supplier specialising in a rapid turn around is Trio Labels Co Ltd, which delivers one week after order confirmation. "We produce screen-printed tags and printed, coloured paper tags with pictures or to customers' requirements. We also make rubber-on-canvas woven tags and Velcro and laser cut versions in silicone," says assistant manager Grace Tang.
She says 17-year-old Trio supplies hang tags to numerous famous brand name companies including Lee Cooper, Lonsdale, Levis and Reebok. "Our customers appreciate our quick delivery and the high quality of our products," adds Tang. "We have built up a solid reputation over the years, and our prices are highly competitive."
Raw materials come from Japan, Korea, the US and Taiwan, while a minimum order is 3,000 tags. Major markets are France, Germany, the US, Korea, the Chinese mainland and India.
"Our head office is in Hong Kong, while our factory is in the mainland's Guangdong Province where we have 400 employees," says Tang, adding that the plant size is 13,000 square metres and covers three blocks. "We are also IS0 9001-certified."
Profit Bright Industrial (HK) Co Ltd, through its subsidiary, Profit Printing, has supplied hang tags to the textile industry for more than nine years. Most carry fabric care instructions or details of size and price.
"We supply hang tags to the licensees of Walt Disney and Puma products and many other brands around the world," says sales executive Cathy Li. "We make our tags strictly to customers' requirements and if they want them with fabric samples or in different materials we can do it. We also supply buckles, zippers, buttons, Velcro, eyelets, ribbons and belts." There is no minimum order requirement. "It is not necessary," says Li. "Orders for hang tags are always in bulk." Delivery time after confirmation of order is 14 days, supplied from an own factory in nearby Shenzhen that employs 200 workers.
According to Patrick Chung, general manager of Top Source Industrial Ltd, when hang tags have pieces of the fabric or spare buttons attached these "extras" are usually supplied by the customer.
"The standard size of our hang tags is 2 3/4 by 4 3/4 inches. They are made of paper or polyethylene and we print them in whatever colours are required by the customer. Some hang tags are quite graphic, with pictures of models wearing the garments to help customers understand the intended function of the clothes. However, a hang tag is increasingly used to add something decorative to the product," he says.
Established in 1989, Top Source started by supplying general garment accessories. Today, in addition to hang tags, the company also produces labels, badges, tapes and gift items.
"We have 30 people in our Hong Kong office and more than 600 in our factory in Dongguan on the Chinese mainland. The plant occupies three floors and we own the entire building," says Chung.
The minimum quantity is 5,000 tags for delivery 2-3 weeks after confirmation of order. "We supply hang tags for some famous garment manufacturers in Southeast Asia, Europe and the US," Chung adds.
Also offering paper, PVC and denim hang tags is Verdi Label Printing Product Co Ltd, established in 1983. "We make hang tags for many manufacturers of jeans," says managing director Verdi Cheng. "Most of our customers are internationally famous, but we are pledged not to disclose their names."
Verdi makes a wide range of essential paper products and sells to customers in the UK, the US, Europe and within Hong Kong. Delivery usually takes place 30 days after order confirmation, but this is negotiable and depends on the conditions.
"The minimum order quantity depends on the items ordered, as most of our customers require several different types of hang tags in one order," says Cheng.
This manufacturer employs 20 people in its Hong Kong sales office and a further 250 in its 140,000-square-foot factory on the mainland. "We are proud of having held a UL licence from the US since 1998," says Cheng. Those looking to dress up their garments in style can do no better than employ decorative and informative hang tags from Hong Kong.
