Wing Hing Straw & Wicker Products Fty uses natural materials and PP for these straw hats, which sell well in the EU, Australia and North America
Fashion accessories are by no means trivial, and add a finishing touch to a dress theme, leading fashion-conscious men and women to stock up on the latest trends. This never-ending quest has been offering ample business opportunities for Hong Kong fashion accessories manufacturers.
Keeping pace with new fashion trends is Wing Hing Straw & Wicker Products Fty. A manufacturer of straw hats and bags since 1994, Wing Hing has introduced a mix of new shades to keep the ladies cool in summer.
"Fashion trends change very fast, but we keep ourselves abreast of new developments," says director Judy Cheung.
"Buyers sourcing vibrant straw hats will not be disappointed with our wide assortment of chic designs," she adds. "Our latest series is decorated with beads and fabrics such as floral prints, silk ribbons and denim bow ties. We use materials that match the season's frocks, as this has been the trend lately."
Straw hats are usually labour-intensive, Cheung explains, noting that these traditional products are handmade as they require a human touch to get it right.
To this end, Wing Hing has an extensive network of outsourcing partners on the Chinese mainland and uses quality straw and waterproof paper straw, she says.
In addition to straw-based items, the company - with 15,000 square metres of factory space in Guangdong and Shandong provinces on the Chinese mainland - also makes beaded fringing, a product that is sought-after by clothing manufacturers.
Wing Hing, which keeps its prices competitive, requires a minimum order of 5,000 pieces and ships 45 days after order confirmation. Products are exported mainly to Australia, Canada, Europe and the US.
Another maker of trendy accessories is Po Fai Industrial Mfy Ltd. The company's product range includes many types of wrist and watch bands made of metal rivets, genuine leather, PU string and cotton. The wrist and watch bands together total 60% of total sales.
"Wrist bands have been growing in popularity recently," says director Belinda Choy. "The strips, embellished with metal rivets and other whimsical details, are clearly the hottest hit among cool youngsters," she adds.
"Genuine leather bands, priced at HK$20 each FOB Hong Kong, are selling briskly in Europe while metallic bands, priced at HK$7-15 per piece, have lately gained wide popularity," she says.
Po Fai sources materials, such as genuine leather, PU, PP, nylon and PVC from Taiwan, Korea and the mainland. Each month the company, established in 1992, produces more than 120,000 pieces of wrist and watch bands at its 4,200-square-metre factory in Dongguan on the mainland.
Major markets include the UK, Italy, Germany, France, Japan and the US. Minimum order is 500-1,000 pieces, depending on the product, for shipment 30-45 days after order confirmation.
With vivid belt designs making quite a splash on the catwalk, Good-in Holdings Ltd has been offering an extensive range of PU and cowhide belts in many different hues. The company also has arrays of ladies' evening bags to satisfy almost any whim.
"Both belts and bags, which account for 70% of our business, are trendy with beautiful finishing," says manager Rosita Chan.
Good-in owns a 1,500-square-metre factory in Wenzhou, in Zhejiang Province on the mainland, which manufacturers about 500,000 leather belts each month using materials like leather and nylon sourced from Korea, Japan and the mainland.
Minimum order sizes vary depending on the design and quantity. Shipments take 30 days after order confirmation to the company's main export markets in Canada, Europe and the US.
Those seeking winter accessories can turn to Fook Cheung Co, which currently offers a series of gloves, scarves and hats made of polyester fleece.
"We have been in this industry for more than 30 years and supply high quality and fashionable products to Europe, Japan, the US and Saudi Arabia," says general manager Lo Fook Cheung.
"Our products, made of anti-pilling materials or with brush fleece on both sides, weigh between 220-380 grams. These see lot of demand from importers, advertising agencies and well-known brand names worldwide," he adds.
Fook Cheung, which also supplies industrial work gloves and sports gloves, has a 150-worker, 10,000-square-foot factory in Shunde on the mainland.
Minimum order is either 2,000 units per item or 5,000 units for every shipment. Delivery normally takes 30-45 days after confirmation.
As a global hub for the textile and garment industries, Hong Kong makers of fashion accessories are quick to spot new trends and wrap up orders from major international markets.
