A Modern Day Success Story(HKTDC Fashion - Fabrics & Accessories, Vol 02,2005)
Fountain Set (Holdings) Ltd
The success of the Fountain Set Group is a story of focus and determination. Back in 1969, Ha Chung Fong co-founded the group as a small, commission dye house in Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong. The fledgling dyer had just 20 employees and handled less than 910,000 kilograms of fabrics a year.
Today, the Fountain Set Group has grown into a publicly-listed multinational enterprise with highly vertically-integrated operations. In 2003, the annual knitted fabric production capacity of the group reached 136.4 million kilograms, generating sales of US$706m.
The largest company in Hong Kong involved in fabric knitting and printing, Fountain Set holds licences to produce many key fabrics such as Lycra, Teflon and Amicor.
Fountain Set's products comprise dyed yarns, sewing threads, knitted and printed fabrics that are sold to hundreds of garment factories in more than 40 countries. In turn, these garment makers supply internationally-renowned apparel brands and retailers around the world.
The group has production facilities on the Chinese mainland, and in Sri Lanka and Indonesia; while overseas marketing/ representative offices in seven countries boost the global staff force to more than 21,500.
The Fountain Set Group provides a dazzling range of products and services:

The group was also the proud recipient of the "No 1 best small company in Hong Kong" award from Asiamoney magazine in 2002.
One of the group's production plants on the mainland - Dongguan Fuan Textiles Ltd - was also the proud recipient of "China's top sales turnover in textile knitted industry" from the China Textiles Industrial Association of Statistic Center in 2003.
Most of the group's cotton spinning mills enjoy ISO 14001 environmental certification, while several of its other major production operations also have ISO 9001 quality certificates.
The Fountain Set Group is committed to growing with its customers. In 2003, a new fabric mill located in Jiangsu Province on the mainland - Jiangyin Fuhui Textiles Ltd - started production. Upon completion of all the development phases, Fuhui's annual production capacity could reach 13.64 million kilograms.
The judging panel noted that Fountain Set, which operates in a rapidly changing industry where tomorrow's fabric trends quickly become old-fashioned, had thrived on the challenge of meeting constant change by positioning itself as an innovative, dynamic, customer-centred company that helped create trends.
Outpacing its competitors, the judges said Fountain Set had built a massive scale of operations and had carved out a distinctive place in the industry as a trendsetter.
The panel also noted that customer relationship management underpinned Fountain Set's continued success as a leading fabric producer, and it was committed to building and managing relationships with vendors and customers worldwide. The goal of providing unparalleled customer service has spurred the company to set up a global service network that stretches across its key markets and has helped ensure reliable delivery.
Both innovative and dynamic, Fountain Set produces hundreds of new fabrics each year, and has forged partnerships with industrial giants such as DuPont to develop new fabric materials. The company is also a pioneer of the e-commerce trading platform www.FASTextile.com for fabric producers.
Clearly, Fountain Set Group has grown into a modern-day success story.
