Innovation, stylish designs and durability are the main features astute buyers seek in waterproof electronic products that are a big hit with consumers worldwide.
Hong Kong electronics manufacturers such as Dynasty Electronics Ltd are second to none when it comes to matching markets and products in this thriving business sector.
"We have built a name for making stylish and durable electronic products since our establishment a decade ago," claims marketing executive William Mok.
Dynasty recently introduced several portable shower radios as well as a portable shower CD player with radio that have been "hot items" in major markets like the US and Europe.
"The CD100 portable shower CD player with radio has proved irresistible as it offers a long battery life and a 'wake up' feature that can activate either the CD, radio or alarm clock," Mok explains.
Shower radio models include the 230SR AM/FM tuner with nylon string and the 238SR with digital clock and nylon string, both of which come in eye-catching colours.
"We procure the ICs and other electronic parts from reliable sources in Japan and Korea, while the ABS comes from the Chinese mainland," Mok assures.
Production takes place at a 50,000-square-foot factory in Huizhou on the mainland, with a monthly output - including Dynasty's entire model range - of approximately 500,000 units.
The company, which requires a minimum order of 3,000 units per model, delivers within 30-45 days of receiving a confirmed order and deposit.
Dynasty sells its products on both an OEM basis and under its own labels, DY and Sanly. "There is a lot of demand for waterproof products in European countries, which account for 50% of our exports," Mok says, adding that its other markets include the US (20%) and Asia (20%).
Equally innovative is 25-year industry veteran Gonica Electronic Co Ltd. "We have introduced a new line of AM/FM shower radios which are quite popular," says sales manager David Chu.
"Shower radios are becoming more popular and our in-house designers have been regularly introducing models with new features after studying market demand."
Model WT-881, for example, is an AM/FM water resistant radio. "The rotary hook style handle of this fish-shaped radio makes it an ideal bathroom accessory," Chu notes.
Model WT-882 is another AM/FM water resistant radio, which "offers the added versatility of a rotary and lockable handle," he adds. "The front panel comes in a variety of colours to attract colour-conscious buyers."
Gonica's oval-shaped AM/FM radio (model WT-883) is increasingly found on beaches in its major markets, namely the US, Canada, Europe and South America.
"Like the other two units, this is a DC model and is powered by three UM-3 batteries," Chu says. "With a headphone jack and a shoulder strap, this is popular among water sports enthusiasts."
The FOB Hong Kong prices of these models range between US$2.80-5.50 per unit for minimum orders of 3,000 pieces delivered within 45 days of receiving a confirmed order.
Gonica manufactures its products at an ISO 9001-certified 65,000-square-foot, 1,000-worker factory in Shenzhen using materials from Korea, Japan, Taiwan and the mainland.
Another maker of innovative shower radios is OEM Electronics Ltd. "Since our start-up in 1989, we have become well known for introducing new products with useful features," claims marketing executive Irene Tam. "Our in-house design team regularly produces new models and also helps our clients to realise their design dreams."
The dexterity of OEM's designers is once again evident in its two new shower radios - a soap dispenser with shower radio (model 7171) and a shower radio with fogless mirror (model 7175).
OEM Electronics, which quotes prices based on a client's specifications, guarantees delivery within 40-60 days of a confirmed order. It has a minimum requirement of 2,000 pieces per model.
The company's ISO 9001-certified 6,000-square-metre factory in Dongguan on the mainland produces 120,000 units of consumer electronic products every month for its major markets in the US and Europe.
Unique designs combined with all-weather features make Fordic Industrial (HK) Ltd's splash-resistant radios irresistible, according to marketing director Frederick Ng.
"Our radios are sold in Germany, where consumers are willing to pay a bit more for better quality products," he notes, claiming Fordic's radios offer value for money as they come with advanced features.
Fordic recently launched three splash-resistant radios: a frog-shaped model (SR-2003), one shaped like a penguin (SR-2005), and a third featuring a light (PN-11).
FOB Hong Kong prices range from US$2-3 for a minimum order of 3,000-5,000 pieces shipped 30-45 days after order confirmation. The OEM company's products, which are made at its factory in Shenzhen on the mainland, are mainly destined for Europe, the US and Japan.
Proving yet again that Hong Kong manufacturers of waterproof electronics products are highly valued by their clients as dependable all-weather friends.
