Vingin Industrial Ltd uses potassium sulphate sourced on the mainland for its range of photo resistors
A world leader in the manufacture and export of electronic components, Hong Kong combines flexible manufacturing on the Chinese mainland and its own excellent sales and marketing skills. The inimitable result is high quality, attractively priced components such as the resistors produced by Vingin Industrial Ltd, which specialises in the manufacture of light sensitive photo resistors.
"We've been manufacturing photo resistors for more than 10 years and during that time we have built a reputation among our customers in Europe and in Asia as a specialist in the region, offering quality and competitive pricing," says marketing executive Kenny Law. "Many customers have been with us for years, though of course we always welcome new orders."
Vingin's products have UL approval and the company maintains a strict system of quality control at its 3,000-square-metre factory in Zhuhai on the mainland.
Here, 250 workers utilise locally sourced raw materials such as potassium sulphate to produce the resistors sold by Vingin's Hong Kong-based sales and marketing operation. "Our minimum order is flexible but we generally ask for a total of at least 10,000 pieces," says Law. "We guarantee to deliver within one week after full payment has been received. Prices can be supplied on request."
Fellow manufacturer Union Electric Works Co Ltd was established over 30 years ago and today manufactures more than 150 million fixed film resistors every month.
"We manufacture a full range of fixed film resistors for export to the US, Europe and Asia," explains general manager Matthew Lo. "Our customers want very high quality and we obviously meet their demands."
The company produces items under the Union Ohm brand name and to its customers' specifications. Union's 30,000-square-foot, ISO9001-certified factory in Guangdong Province employs more than 100 workers and uses raw materials such as ceramic substrates, tin-plated copper wire and epoxy paint from Taiwan and Japan.
Union Electric has a minimum order of 10,000 pieces per item and will deliver 3-4 weeks after confirmation of order. "Prices are dependent on quantity, but we are a very competitive and flexible company and welcome all enquiries," concludes Lo.
Golden Sing Industrial Co is equally productive, manufacturing a wide range of electronic components including resistors, capacitors, neon lamps and diodes. "Resistors make up a high proportion of our sales, particularly to customers in the US and Europe," says marketing supervisor Maggie Yan.
Golden Sing manufactures a full range of carbon film, metal film, wire wound and chip resistors under its own GS brand at its 300-worker mainland factory in Shenzhen. "We are very flexible when it comes to service," explains Yan. "We can manufacture easily to a customer's own design if they need any tailor-made specifications, and are happy to produce the necessary samples."
She adds that Golden Sing has no minimum order requirement and its prices are very competitive. "However we have to make sure that prices are never at the expense of quality," adds Yan.
Golden Sing will deliver within 2-3 weeks of confirmation of order and Yan welcomes any enquiries regarding her company's range of resistors and prices.
Like its competitors, Kin Fung Electrical Co Ltd produces a wide range of resistors at its mainland plant in Shenzhen and sells them via its sales and marketing operations in Hong Kong.
The company's range includes metal film fixed resistors, carbon film fixed resistors, flameproof metal oxide film fixed resistors, and type SQP cement resistors.
"There are not many types of resistors we are unable to supply," claims spokesman Chris To. "And for most models in the standard range we carry stock, which reduces delivery time to a minimum."
Kin Fung has a minimum order quantity of 5,000 pieces and promises delivery within one week to its customers on the mainland and increasing numbers in Eastern Europe. The factory and Hong Kong office have ISO9001 certification, which was gained in 1998, followed by ISO2000 this year. "Our quality is very good and we only use the best quality metallised ceramic rods from Taiwan."
Taking a slightly different tack, Welleader Co Ltd is a distributor for a leading manufacturer based on the mainland. "We supply many locally based manufacturers as well as overseas customers in the US and New Zealand," explains director Lam Chi Biu. "They all demand very high quality and to meet their requirements we place enormous importance on quality control."
Welleader distributes almost every type of resistor, including chip resistors, carbon film resistors, metal film resistors, metal oxide film resistors, fusible resistors, wire-wound fixed resistors and cement fixed resistors.
Lam says delivery time depends on the type of resistor. "We keep many of the more standard types in stock but sometimes more specialised items need to be produced specially, and this can take time," he explains. "Similarly this will affect the price, and the minimum order quantity."
Welleader's ISO 9000-certified factory uses materials sourced on the mainland for production.
