Printed Circuit Boards(HKTDC Electronic Components & Parts, Vol 01,2006)
The Perfect Layout
Introlines Industrial (HK) Ltd specialises in producing 1-14 layer rigid printed circuit boards and 1-2 layer flexible PCBs for markets in the US and Europe
Printed circuit boards (PCBs) form the basis of a vast variety of electronic products. They carry almost all the components and parts and interconnect with different stages and processes. Hong Kong manufacturers of PCBs not only provide a complete range of boards formulated using the latest technology, but also strive to take care of the environment with products that remain globally competitive.
The 1990-established Carven Circuits Ltd is a good example. This well-established manufacturer produces 500,000 square feet of PCBs each month. The range includes single-sided, double-sided, multi-layered (1-4), HAL, and immersion silver and gold boards.
"We do everything we can to stay up-to-date and match the latest technical trends and demands from the marketplace," explains sales manager Margaret Mok. "At the same time, we remain mindful of where customer demand is likely to take us. Underpinning all of these efforts are stringent quality control and a comprehensive and competitive marketing strategy."
Mok says there is increasing demand for both environmentally-friendly products and production methods. "As a result, Carven has introduced a number of initiatives, including ISO 14001 certification and the regular acquisition of lead-free materials," she says.
The company also has ISO/TS 16949; TL 9000; ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001 certification. "We also do our own research and development with alliance partners into how emerging technologies might enhance the board-making process or even the performance of the finished product, including PTF applications," adds Mok.
Carven's PCBs are manufactured at facilities in Hong Kong and on the Chinese mainland in a plant area that totals 650,000 square feet. Staff numbers are projected to reach 600 this year.
Delivery for a sample takes 10 days, while it requires two weeks for production of minimum order values of US$2,000. Strong lines are PCBs for automotive and industrial applications, while major markets are the US and Europe.
The US and Europe are also major markets for Introlines Industrial (HK) Ltd, with the rest of sales coming from buyers in Asia. "We have a wide range of PCBs and are capable of producing versions with up to 14 layers within a tolerance of 1.60mm," assures sales and marketing manager Edward Chau.
He says that PCBs from Introlines are used mainly in the telecoms, security and electronic control sectors. "In addition to excellent quality, our consistent on-time delivery ensures that our customers can predict the launch of their new products into the market with confidence," he promises.
Introlines has a monthly capacity of 700,000 square feet of PCBs at its ISO 9001-certified, UL-approved, 250,000-square-foot mainland factory that employs 1,200 workers.
The minimum order value is US$1,000, for delivery three weeks after order confirmation. Interline PCBs are available bearing customersO brands or under the in-house IT brand name.
According to marketing director Albert Lee, the secret of success for 1988-established Tat Chun Printed Circuit Board Co Ltd is a combination of competitively priced materials, efficient capacity utilisation and automation. "We take all of these factors on board, ensure we remain competitive and offer tailor-made PCBs for individual makers," he says.
Lee says the firm has successfully reduced the lead time to 7-14 days after confirmation of order to meet current demands from the industry for rapid responses, widen the customer base to Korean, Japanese and European customers and develop different products.
"Customer demand has seen lead times shorten considerably, " he explains. "Not everyone can cope, but we have managed to get the lead time down quite impressively to less than half of what it used to be. There is also an increasing trend for customers to now place last-minute orders, and we need to ensure we have the capability to serve them."
The company produces single-sided, double-sided and multilayer (up to 8) PCBs usually produced under the Tat Chun brand name. "We tend to focus on high-volume customers and our minimum order value is about US$2,500," Lee says.
Like other Hong Kong PCB manufacturers, Tat Chun has adequate quality and environment certification, including ISO 9000, ISO 14001 and ISO/TS 16949, in addition to UL, CE and CQC approvals.
Tat Chun employs 1,700 workers at its 13,000-square-metre mainland facilities where the monthly production capacity is two million square feet of single-sided boards and almost one million square feet of double/multi-layer boards. The firmOs major markets are Hong Kong, the mainland, Singapore, Korea and Europe.
The majority of PCBs exported by 1999-established ANS Industrial Co Ltd are used in computer or telecoms applications. The monthly production capacity is 400,000 square feet, and products range from single-sided to 16-layer boards.
The firm also has lead-free products available for related application. "There is a definite trend in the industry towards a more environmentally-friendly approach, including ISO certification and lead-free boards," says sales manager Kenneth Tang.
Tang believes that ANS maintains its competitive edge by offering unique products that incorporate the latest technology. "One example is the ability to offer 16-layer PCBs, and we can also provide copper thicknesses up to 6oz."
PCBs are manufactured under the ANS brand name, unless required otherwise by clients, and production takes place at a 350-worker, 120,000-square-foot factory in Foshan on the Chinese mainland. The ISO 9001-certified plant also boasts UL approval and products that meet IPC standards.
In addition to the mainland, ANSO main markets are the UK, Europe and the US. Standard delivery time is 3-4 weeks after order confirmation, and the company does not have a minimum order requirement.
Climb on board with Hong Kong manufacturers of PCBs for a perfect layout, competitive prices and excellent quality.
