One of the world's fastest-growing electronics exhibitions celebrates its fifth anniversary this month

The HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) will hold its fifth birthday party at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 14-17 April 2008.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of last year's event, guest of honour Tim Freshwater said Hong Kong is an important international sourcing hub for electronics products, and the young fair has quickly emerged as the "must-attend" spring event for international buyers.

"Buyers are flocking to Hong Kong to source innovative products, do business and gather the latest market intelligence," Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Member Mr Freshwater observed.

The industry outlook was promising, with total exports climbing 12% from January-September 2007 to top the US$17bn mark, thanks to local manufacturers' and exporters' sensitivity to changing market needs.

Mr Freshwater said applying a vertical integration strategy to manufacturing has sharpened the industry's edge. "From product design and development to tool-making, production and quality control, it's all being executed under one roof."

Runaway success

Nowhere is this observation more in evidence than at the HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition), which has been a runaway success since its introduction as an extension of the proven HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) traditionally held in October each year.

The fair is a microcosm of global industry trends as well as a sourcing hub for many thousands of electrical and electronic products, while the International ICT Expo that runs concurrently is an added attraction for canny buyers that provides a wonderful opportunity to access vital technology and products.

Together the two shows have become unmissable events for electronics suppliers and buyers keen to source the very latest and best products from around the globe.

The HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) is an international sourcing platform, with more than 51,400 buyers from 153 countries and regions viewing the array of innovative products displayed by 2,406 exhibitors from 22 countries and regions in 2007.

This year's event will once again host exhibitors from all corners of the world, with the focus falling on the Hall of Fame, an attractively decorated section where design is the top priority.

Different kinds of electrical and electronic products showcasing excellent design and workmanship will be on display - many are designer collections and all carry high-profile brand names.

Latest styles

A Lighting Section that presents the latest styles will again cater for those electronics buyers who are also in the market for lighting products and systems.

Nowadays, lighting is as much about fashion as function and the Lighting Section is the ideal place to find new lighting designs and top-up inventory.

Numerous special zones that will return to further enhance the sourcing experience include:

  • Audio Visual
  • Electronic Accessories
  • Electronic Parts, Components and Production Technology
  • Healthcare Electronics
  • Home Appliances
  • Personal Electronics
  • Security Products
  • Telecommunications Products

Entertaining and informative industry conferences, seminars and forums, along with an attractive line-up of speakers, have also been organised in order to keep exhibitors and buyers abreast of the latest industry developments.

Business solutions

Meanwhile, the International ICT Expo, will feature business solutions providers with particular value for small-and-medium sized enterprises (SMEs).

This year, the fair will present the latest offerings by leading local and international information technology (IT) suppliers and software applications developers.

Five emerging ICT industry trends will be highlighted:

  • embedded software
  • IT outsourcing
  • retail technologies and RFID
  • Wi-Fi applications
  • games and multimedia

Several thematic zones will also represent important industry sectors, including Enterprise Solutions, Network & Mobility, Digital Living & Multimedia, Home-grown Innovations, IT Outsourcing, E-Logistics & Retail Technologies.

The International ICT Expo therefore looks certain to build on the success of last year's event, which attracted 576 exhibitors from 18 countries and regions and welcomed more than 22,760 buyers from 124 countries and regions.

Organised by the HKTDC, the two events at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre will certainly be cause for celebration for exhibitors and buyers alike.
