Flying Dragon Electronic Co Ltd, for example, which has b een manufacturing audio baby monitors under the Babyminder brand since 1981, makes children's safety a major focus.
The company has more than 20 baby monitors in its range, of which fully 90% are designed and owned by the company. The range spans the entry-level FD-2300 model up to the advanced FD-D5 LCD unit.
"A basic model comes with two-channels, a voice-activated night-light, a sound level indicator, low-battery indicator, and an operating range of 400 metres in an open area for the 40MHz version and 600 metres for the 900MHz version," explains business manager Irene Chong.
"The FD-D5 has more sophisticated functions like remote room temperature display, high/low temperature settings, timer, and low battery warnings for both units that are displayed on the receiver," she adds. "The unit is also interference-free across the same ranges as the basic model."
Both of these models measure 98mm (H) x 62mm (W) x 30mm (D), are either battery- (AAA x 3) or AC-operated, and can be recharged via a charger base. All of the company's receiver monitors emit a warning when there is no signal from the transmitter.
"We can customise the units to any Pantone colour combination, including the use of customer-provided, silk-screened logos and distinctive finishes," says Chong, adding that the products are made from non-toxic plastic that is sourced in Japan, Taiwan or the Chinese mainland.
Manufacturing takes place at the firm's ISO 9001-certified Chinese mainland factory in Shenzhen. "Many of our high-quality products are sold within Europe, but we also have a presence in South America, Australia and the Middle East," comments Chong.
The minimum order is 1,000 sets for delivery 30-45 days after confirmation. Monthly production capacity varies for each model: for the FD-2300 it is 30,000, while for the FD-D5 it is 20,000 sets.
Meanwhile, providing for the clothing and bedding needs of babies through to toddlers in Europe, Australia, Canada and the US is the specialty of Young Sun Int'l Holdings Ltd.
This company's product range includes romper and pyjama sets, bibs, sleeping bags, bath caps, bathrobes, socks, quilt covers, bed sheets, seat covers, play mats and baby carriers. FOB Hong Kong unit prices of these items range from US$0.50-15.00.
A selection of textiles is used. Popular choices are 100% cotton; interlock, woven and knitted terry cloth; EVA and PEVA, and printed and woven poplin.
"In addition to a wide choice of fabrics, we can provide all colour options, matching colours as and when needed," says export manager Wallace Chung.
The five-year-old company has four factories on the mainland: an ISO-certified plant in Shenzhen and other facilities in Foshan, Dongguan and Shantou. The combined monthly production capacity is approximately one million items per model.
"Generally speaking," says Chung, "the minimum order is 100 dozen items per style, but it all depends on the MOQ of the main material." Delivery time is 45-60 days after order confirmation and sample approval.
Specialising is the key to success for HengSheng Melamine Ware Co Ltd, which has a delivery time of approximately 35 days for its range of colourful melamine tableware for children. The company claims it is one of the largest manufacturers and exporters of melamine products in Asia.
HengSheng introduces new items each year, and current hot favourites are five- and six-piece dinner sets. "Ensuring the safety of our products is important, and so we heat-transfer the decal to the item," assures marketing manager Kentto Chan. "All our items pass the food safety certificate for FDA and 2002/72/EEC approvals."
The company's products are designed for children aged 3-8 years, and are manufactured at its Fujian factory on the mainland. The minimum order is 3,000 items, and Chan says that the price of each item depends on the final quantity ordered. "Our products are popular worldwide, particularly in the US and Europe, because they are durable and reliable."
Co Co Baby Products Co Ltd claims its products make perfect partners for eating utensils as it has specialised in the manufacture of baby bibs since 1996.
"Bibs made from cotton with PEVA backing and hook-and-loop fasteners are in demand in our main markets of South America and the Middle East," says director Rio Chan.
Chan says that unit prices depend on the quantity ordered. "Usually, the minimum order is 200 dozen bibs for delivery 35-40 days after confirmation." Manufacture takes place at the firm's Dongguan factory, which can produce 5,000 bibs per day. "Our products can be used for the newly born right through to three year olds," says Chan.
Hong Kong clearly has all the products needed for the young that will also satisfy adoring parents.?
