|Cable assembly firm Holly Hand Enterprise Co Ltd uses state-of-the-art equipment to produce a variety of ISO 9001-certified products|
A decision to move to the Chinese mainland over a decade ago has paid handsome dividends for Holly Hand Enterprise Co Ltd, which was established in 1980 to manufacture cable assemblies. The firm grew rapidly and its instant success, coupled with the rigours of fierce competition, soon demanded a move to a cheaper production centre.
"We decided to build a new factory in Gong Ming, a suburb of Shenzhen City on the mainland, which began operations in May 1992,"recalls sales manager Linus Lee. "As a cable assembly firm, labour costs and production efficiencies were the main two factors affecting our profits."
The 10,000-square-metre Shenzhen plant, which has ISO 9001 certification and UL and CSA approvals, features moulding machines crimping machines, stripping machines, both air and manual polishing machines, curing machines, cleaning machines and hotplate machines.
Test equipment ranges through hi-pot cable testers, general cable testers, hi-pot and insulation testers, PC and monitor testers, environmental test chambers, cable flexibility testers, insertion and pull testers to insertion loss and return loss testers, insertion loss and return loss power meters and Norland contact checkers.
This state-of-the-art equipment is used to produce a wide variety of ISO 9001-certified products including RGB monitor cables, SCART cables, SCSI cables, USB cables, Cat. 5 cables, PCMIA cables, IEEE1394 cables, and DVI cables as well as all kinds of adaptors, fibre optic patch cords, portable chargers for cellular phones, attenuators and transceivers.
The latest products coming off the production lines at Holly Hand include USB card readers, cellular phone adaptors for all the major mobile phone makers including Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia, Siemens, and Philips, and panel-mounted CAT.5E inline couplers.
These are augmented by SCART to SCART cables, RCA plug to RCA and RCA plug to BNC, LC fibre optical cables, POF adaptors - jack-to-plug, 5 BNC To 5 BNC, and D-SUB 15 PIN to 5 BNC.
Holly Hand's customers deal with the company on a 100% OEM basis, providing the specifications, shapes they require and the functional properties of the cable assemblies.
Monthly production capacity stands at 600,000 pieces and the minimum order size depends on the product but is normally 10,000 pieces, delivered 3-4 weeks after receipt of payment or order. "We export mainly to Germany, the UK and Japan and most of our raw materials are sourced from the mainland or are issued by the clients themselves," Lee adds.
