Artchief Industries Ltd offers this wireless headphone system (left) and a sleekly designed wireless speaker system (right).

PAST masters of electronics production and industry newcomers all understand the need to stay one step ahead in product development. Innovation is essential, and so Hong Kong companies produce exciting new cordless products at competitive prices.

Artchief Industries Ltd, a maker of electronic goods since the late 1980s, began concentrating on wireless products in 1993. Its general product line includes wireless headphones and speakers, walkie-talkies and other cord-free home items, although marketing manager Rocky Sharma says wired products are produced too.

The wireless range includes a PMRS two-way radio communicator, model ER20, unit priced at US$13.50; a PIR motion-detector ceiling alarm, model OV-01, US$5.90; an RF 863MHz wireless headphone system, model AF11, US$17.50; and an RF 863 MHz wireless speaker system, model SPF8200, US$53. All prices are FOB Hong Kong.

Artchief Industries also engages in R&D consultancy, often leading to production orders. "We work in partnership with clients so they feel comfortable dealing with us. Strong business ethics are very important to us," Sharma says.

Another strength is the company's approach to quality control. "We understand the need to be competitive, so we offer the best quality available for reasonable prices," Sharma adds.

The company has an ISO 9001-certified factory in Dongguan on the Chinese mainland. Minimum order is 1,000 pieces for shipment about 45 days after order confirmation.

Micromark Hong Kong O/B Bridisco (HK) Ltd, originally introduced by the UK-based Bridisco group as an own-brand label for a limited product range, has evolved into an independent division for the design, creation and marketing of electronic consumer products.

Marketing executive Jennifer Yim says most Micromark products are for home use and based on a do-it-yourself concept. "Our products are easy to install and very user-friendly," she says.

One new item is a wireless CCTV observation system kit with a 2.4GHz wireless camera, wall-mount bracket and set-top receiver. Model MM23266 produces black-and-white images while model MM23285 is colour. Four cameras send images to a receiver, and there is a built-in microphone. An anti-moisture system stops cameras from misting, and the weather-resistant design suits outdoor or indoor use. Both PAL and NTSC versions are available. Minimum order is 500 units.

Micromark sells to customers ranging from wholesalers to construction companies in Europe, Australia, Japan and the US. The company's 700-worker ISO 9000-certified factory in Shenzhen on the Chinese mainland uses camera-sensor chips imported from the US. Shipment is after about 60 days. Minimum order is 2,000 pieces for shipment after four weeks.

Altessal Technology Co offers a new wireless parking sensor that operates from a vehicle's electrical system as the display unit perches on the dashboard. A series of two-light combinations and long/short buzzer sounds indicate unseen obstacles when reversing or parking. Model JP-1018 is for long vehicles, like buses or lorries, and works at 315/434 MHz. Minimum order is 600 pieces unit priced at HK$300 (US$38.50) FOB Hong Kong.

Marketing executive Hon Vai Si says Altessal Technology is unusual in making wireless sensors specifically for long vehicles. "Many of our products go into large container vehicles," she says.

Altessal Technology has made compasses and other car-direction accessories since 1998. Its factory in Dongguan has 200 workers. Usual minimum order is 2,000 pieces for shipment after four weeks.

Serving mainly the US and Europe, Invent-Tech Enterprise Ltd provides home-use electronic goods. Its wireless PIR dialler alarm system, model RF-668, has a seven-metre range, 110-degree sweep and unit prices starting at US$20. Other products include a 200-metre-range wireless baby monitor, model BC005, at US$10, and a wireless doorbell, model FR83, at US$7. All prices are FOB Hong Kong. Minimum order is 2,000 pieces for the doorbell and 1,000 for the baby monitor or dialler alarm system.

Invent-Tech Enterprise uses components from the US, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan at its ISO 9002- and TUV-certified factory on the Chinese mainland. Shipment is after about eight weeks.

Director Ho Nang Kai says the 12-year-old company is extremely flexible. "We pride ourselves on giving personalized service, and customers appreciate that," he says.
