|Dongbo Industries Ltd produces RCA jacks, S-video jacks, AC sockets, phone jacks, speaker terminals and more for various AV products|
Diversity and quality are key when it comes to manufacturing jack plugs and their sockets, and Hong Kong manufacturers produce many different types, supplied with or without adapters and cables or as standalone components.
Founded in 1994, Best Nice (Pacific) Ltd has recently added Cat-6 sockets to its extensive product range. "Cat-6 sockets and cables are the new standard for use with high speed networks, and provide superior immunity from external noise," claims marketing executive Cecilia Chow.
"We design our products in-house based on consumer and distributor requirements," adds Chow. "Other items, such as SMT modular jacks, mini jacks and low profile modular jacks, are also manufactured to extremely high quality standards."
The company's main markets are the US, Japan, Europe and Taiwan. "Our jacks and sockets are produced from ABS, PBT and PC sourced from Taiwan," she explains.
Manufacturing takes place at a 10,000-square-metre, ISO 9001-certified factory in Guangdong Province on the Chinese mainland. Delivery is usually 7-10 days following order confirmation.
Similarly committed to quality is 15-year-old Dongbo Industries Ltd, which emphasises the importance of meeting the high expectations of its clients.
"We keep complete control over quality through our in-house engineering and design team, which creates and develops OEM products and also designs custom-made items," claims managing director K. H. Lee.
"For example, our S-video jack plug has contact resistance of 30 milliohms maximum, an insulation resistance of 50 milliohms maximum and it can withstand 250V for one minute," he adds.
Lee says Dongbo also enjoys a strong reputation for the quality of its speaker terminals and terminal blocks, RCA jacks, multi-jacks, AC sockets and phone jacks.
"We are also a well established manufacturer of AV connectors for audio and TV sets, car audio equipment, DVD players and satellite receivers," explains Lee. "Clients include Samsung, LG, Etronics, Kwang Sung, Anam and many other well-known household electronic product manufacturers."
A workforce of 300 produces about 250,000 pieces of each item per month at the firm's ISO 9001-certified, 5,400-square-metre factory on the mainland.
Dongbo requires a minimum order of 5,000 pieces, and the price is based on the number of items ordered. Delivery takes place 30-45 days after confirmation depending on the size of the order.
Japan, the US and Europe are Dongbo's main markets, and the company also manufactures hairsprings for clocks and watches and measuring instruments and spiral springs for electrical home appliances and toys.
Established in 1996, Jeanleaf Int'l Ltd is equally productive - manufacturing a range of more than 30 jack plugs, sockets and accessories mainly for the telephone market.
"Our latest product range includes Cat.6 and Cat.5E keystone jacks. These are high-density, small designs to reduce costs and feature a patented dust cover," informs sales manager Sam Leung.
"Our Cat.6 twisted pair cable jacks are fully compliant with international standards, and feature a slot to maintain stability and high performance in high speed Internet transmissions," he adds.
"Furthermore, our new RJ45 plug complies with FCC part 68 standards, which are suitable for Cat.5E and 6 solid and standard cable assemblies. They are also compliant with AMP and AT&T crimping tools."
Jeanleaf's 15,000-square-metre, ISO 9001-certified factory in Guangdong Province employs more than 500 workers and uses raw materials such as plastics from the mainland and Japan and alloy wire from Germany.
"To maintain quality standards, we operate our own plating shop and laboratory, which is equipped with advanced testing equipment such as an X-ray machine for measuring the correct thickness of the gold used in our components," says Leung.
The company requires a minimum order of 10,000 pieces per item and delivers 7-10 days after confirmation of order. "Prices are dependent on quantity, but we are very competitive and flexible and welcome all enquiries," says Leung, adding that main markets include Europe and Southeast Asia.
Rather than focus on one niche, 19-year-old Tri-Mark Enterprise Co produces a variety of jacks and sockets - including wire-to-board and board-to-board connectors such as pin headers, wafers, housings, modular plugs and jacks, FPC connectors, D-Sub connectors, IDC sockets, terminal blocks, cellular phone plugs, DC plugs and jacks, stereo/mono phone plugs and jacks, USB sockets and PCB plugs and sockets.
"The majority of our products are compatible for use with famous brand products seen in the market place," says marketing executive Jenny Lam. "Our core competitive advantages are strict cost and quality control plus superior manufacturing experience."
She says that Tri-Mark's customers include other cable assembly factories and manufacturers on the mainland and in Thailand, Malaysia, India and the US.
Production takes place at the firm's 650-worker, ISO 9001-certified factory in Shenzhen. Minimum order is 10,000 pieces, and delivery is normally 7-10 days following order confirmation.
"We aim to provide solutions and total satisfaction for our cable and connector clients," says Lam.
This is good news for shrewd manufacturers around the world who are determined to offer consumers the best quality connections for all kinds of electronic products.
