Well Union Industrial (HK) Co Ltd

Relying upon advanced technology, Well Union Industrial (HK) Co Ltd offers electroluminescent wire for use in everything from timepieces, toys and gifts to special effects.

ON festive occasions, luminous head-dresses and necklets made of electroluminescent wires (cool neon) appear on people crowding the streets of cities around the world.

The illumination wire emits cold light and is available in an array of colours, including red, yellow, blue, white, orange, purple and green.

Only recently have such products appeared in the commercial sector, says Well Union Industrial (HK) Co Ltd general manager Alex Wong.

To Wong's astonishment, such technology, first applied in aviation, military and automotive sectors, ideally suits the mass market.

Well Union is the international marketing arm of China Guangdong Wanyu Technology Development Co Ltd, a specialist in research, development and production pertaining to electroluminescent wire.

"We have handled sales since Wanyu's establishment in 1998," says Wong, who expresses optimism about prospects for this practical, hi-tech technology.

Wanyu's electroluminescent wire, considered cost-effective for advertising and product design, has gained a firm foothold in global markets. Europe and the US buy the most.

Given the wide applicability, Well Union believes such wire will expand its market share in Asia, including Hong Kong.

"We are unconcerned about competition because successfully developing such products requires continuous effort, large investments, advanced equipment, professional knowledge and considerable skill," Wong says.

Demand for powerful illuminations prompted the evolution of electroluminescent wire tailored to a more sophisticated market. Wanyu has a strong development team working hard on more innovative and high-tech products .

"The 360-degree wire is a great improvement on the traditional 180 degrees. It offers a more flexible, practical, safe and power-saving choice for new product design."

"This is a brand-new technology. The products have a lifetime of thousands of hours. Only 0.9-5.0mm thick, the wire can be coiled, knotted or cut to any length. It can be braided or put together with alluring flashing devices to create unique effects in accordance with design ideas," he adds.

Well Union markets such wire for use in everything from watches and clocks, toys and gifts to special effects for stages, casinos, movies, night clubs, television shows and advertisements.

"Being cool and water resistant, it is even ideal illumination in fish-tanks," Wong says.

"Since electroluminescent wire remains quite a new hi-tech product in the commercial market, quality is an important concern," Wong says.

Well Union also offers a comprehensive package. "We pack an inverter with a mix and match of colourful wires, according to buyers' requests and usage. This increases the convenience for application," Wong explains.
