Consumers who care about the sound quality of music and movies look for headphones and other accessories that allow them to enjoy every last note or word.
As one of the world's leading electronics manufacturing centres, Hong Kong is packed full of companies that specialise in sparkling sounds for all situations.
Founded in 1992, Alford Industries Ltd is one Hong Kong company that understands consumer demands for high-quality audio equipment. "The 2.4GHz headphone is our latest product and offers good noise-cancellation performance and superb user comfort," claims sales manager Amy Suen.
She points out the company produces headphones that appeal to different market segments. "We manufacture headphones with a simple design and basic functions for the middle to lower market range and a more sophisticated design with value-added functions for the high-end audience," Suen says.
The high-end DHP-100 digital wireless headphone fitted with intelligent bi-directional two-way control and 16bits/44.1kHz to ensure the highest quality sound delivery typifies Alford's top range.
RoHS and WEEE compliant, the DHP-100 enables easy connection between home audio systems, TVs, PCs or DVDs to maximise and enhance the listening experience.
The company also specialises in the design and manufacture of wireless products, audio headphones, Bluetooth headsets, baby monitors and medical stereoscopes.
Suen says that hearing enhancers is another niche but profitable market. "We are recording very good sales figures for hearing enhancers in Germany and Japan," she notes.
About 85% of Alford's products are produced on an ODM and OEM basis with the remainder manufactured under the company's own CyberLabs brand name.
"We are an authorised manufacturer for key brands such as Sony, Panasonic, JVC and Thomson," Suen explains. "We are also proud to have become a recent Green Partner of Sony."
Alford's products are manufactured at a 2,500,000-square-foot, 1,000-worker factory in Shunde on the Chinese mainland that is ISO 9001- and ISO 14001-certified.
"FOB Hong Kong prices are available on request, while the minimum order is 3,000 sets per model and delivery is 30-60 days after order confirmation," says Suen, adding that the US, Europe and Japan are Alford's main markets.
Fujikon Industrial Co Ltd is another Hong Kong company committed to keeping pace with rapid changes in the international home and portable audio industry.
According to managing director - business Tom Li, the 24-year-old company's entry-level SL-700 earphones with 13.5mm silicone air cushion ensures hours of clear listening pleasure.
"The SL-700 series is an ideal companion for MD, MP3 or CD players," says Li, adding that the headphones are produced in an assortment of colours and stylish designs to create a subtle fashion statement.
Fujikon also has a wealth of experience in the design, manufacturing and sale of a wide range of electro-acoustic products, including earphones, headsets, microphones, speakers, sub-woofer systems, speaker drivers and wireless products.
"Our products are sold on an ODM or OEM basis to top-brand global customers," explains Li, adding that Fujikon recently became the first electro-acoustic company in the world to obtain IECQ QC 080000 HSPM certification for its Green Manufacturing System.
The ISO 9001- and ISO 14001-certified company also manufactures a lightweight DJ monitoring-style headphone, the PX-663, that features flat foldable earpads for easy transport.
"It is contemporary in design, but function has not been neglected as the PX-663 offers maximum wearing comfort thanks to a headband and well-padded, sturdy yet light earpads," notes Li. "The PX-663 is an optimal choice for consumers who demand high acoustic quality and stylish accessories for music-on-the-go."
Fujikon has also built on the success of its NC-4 active noise-cancelling headphones with its new NC-42 model, which features a 90?swivel fold-flat design for greater portability and storage, lightweight extendable headband for added comfort, airline adaptor and carrying pouch.
They are among the nine million-plus headphones and boom microphone headsets Fujikon produces each month at a 5,100-worker, 72,640-square-metre factory in Dongguan on the mainland.
They are sold sale worldwide under a variety of brand names, including Fico, Hi-Tex, Pro-Luxe and Uni-Tone. "FOB Hong Kong prices and delivery times are available on request," Li says, adding that the minimum order is 2,000 units.
Similarly committed to innovative products, continuous technology improvement and service support is Sunlet Int'l Ltd, which believes these attributes are key to market success.
"Our newest stereo adaptor SN-0215 for cellular phones delivers sound quality equivalent to listening to an MP3 player," explains marketing executive Daniel Cho, adding that the company's aim is to become a "leading player" in this growing market.
He says Sunlet's most popular products include audio accessories such as speakers, headphones, earphones, mobile headsets and chargers.
"Customers are always welcome to provide their own ideas and designs for further development by using our experience and technical support to provide the perfect product," Cho adds.
The 13-year-old company has developed its own SUNIX brand and has also been increasing its OEM capabilities, helping boost production at its 7,500-square-metre, 400-worker mainland factory.
Sunlet's ISO 9001-certified plant also meets the mainland's Green Products Management System requirements, which comply with the EU's RoHS directive.
"Our main market is Japan," Cho explains, adding that Sunlet delivers minimum orders from 1,000-3,000 pieces - depending on the item - 30 days after order confirmation.
This willingness to meet market requirements is yet another reason why smart buyers always choose headphones and microphones from Hong Kong that sell as well as they sound.
