Electrical & Electronic Appliances
Increasingly advanced functions are certain to drive sales for electrical and electronic appliances from Asia
Innovative and versatile are the buzz words for today's electrical and electronic appliances, which are truly powerful performers in handling household chores and turning homes into comfortable havens.
A good example of this trend is a heater (model 1820) using ceramic positive thermal coefficient (PTC) technology from Shenzhen Sunzone Electrical Appliances Ltd of the Chinese mainland.
"PTC ceramics have a natural cut-off point where they will no longer conduct electricity when they get too hot. This is an important safety feature that many people value," says Sales Manager Wendy Weng.
"In addition, if the unit is tipped over, electricity will also be cut off automatically and the heater has to be reset manually before reuse."
Encased in ABS, the RoHS-compliant heater features a 90-degree oscillation angle and an LCD showing operating information such as temperature, timer and wind setting.
The model comes in US and European versions: 1500W and 1.8m power cord length for the former, and 1800W and 1.5m for the latter.
Apart from heaters, Shenzhen Sunzone also makes air coolers and electric fans, such as tower cooling fan model 2080, which employs evaporative cooling technology to provide humidified cool air.
"Equipped with an ice box for storing ice cubes, the tower fan can release cool air for up to a few hours," says Ms Weng. The tower fan comes with a remote control unit and offers five wind settings: high, medium, low, nature and sleeping. The ABS-encased unit measures roughly 300x300x900mm and features an optional ionizer.
Clean & comfortable
To enhance indoor air quality, the Habanero air-purifier model VH001(BK) from Korea's Wooju Eltec Co Ltd is the perfect solution. Thanks to the company's proprietary e-nano film filter, the unit claims to remove fine dust, pollen, germs, bacteria and odours from indoor air.
"This compact unit can filter air over an area of 15 square metres and can be used in a wide range of indoor premises such as living rooms, babies' rooms and offices," explains General Manager Chang Keun Yoo.
"The film filter is changeable, and the air-purifier also has an inbuilt DC-powered fan that generates little noise," he advises, noting that the product comes in a choice of six colours: black, blue, yellow, orange, green and red.
For controlling indoor temperatures and humidity, Hong Kong's Win Global Electrical Appliance Ltd offers model HC-S18M, which combines heating, cooling and humidifying functions.
"This unit can be used throughout the year, and is a great space-saver," says Administrative Officer Rita Mak, noting that the unit measures 260x200x490mm. "Also, because it has a humidifying function, the indoor air will not become dry when the heater is on."
The appliance is equipped with a 3.1-litre water tank that provides mist at about 300-350ml per hour when the humidifying function is on. The appliance also features an optional ionizer.
For modern cordless living, Grey Technology (HK) Ltd offers a cordless electronic rechargeable sweeper (model SW02), which won an award in the "Best Product" category of the British Housewares Federation Awards in 2004.
Powered by a 7.2V Ni-Cad rechargeable battery, the sweeper can be used for up to 60 minutes after a single charge of about 12 hours. "The sweeper has a cleaning width of 11 inches and a rotating edge brush to get all the dirt out of difficult nooks and crannies," says Senior Sales and Marketing Executive Wallis Lee.
She adds that the sweeper weighs just 1.6kg, making it easy to lift and manoeuvre. "Besides, its aluminium telescopic handle can be adjusted in length or removed altogether to suit different tasks, such as cleaning stairs or upholstery," Ms Lee explains. "The unit also has a removable dust tray for quick and easy dirt disposal."
Key markets for this cordless sweeper are the US, Europe, the Middle East and Australia. "It is perfect for family households, pet owners or people with caravans, motor homes and boats," Ms Lee maintains.
For safe and easy ironing, Hong Kong's Sanwell Industries Ltd produces steam iron model S2630, which switches off automatically when it has not detected any movement for 30 seconds. "After that, the iron can be reactivated by shaking it," enthuses Deputy General Manager Victor Wong.
Working off 220-240V mains, the iron gives shots of steam at about 100 grams per minute or continuous steam at about 30 grams per minute. Its 250ml see-through water tank is equipped with an anti-drip mechanism and a thermostat indicator light which shows if the appliance has reached the desired temperature.
There is also a dial for temperature and steam control, and a handle padded with soft rubber on the top side for a firmer grip. The iron offers seven soleplate choices: hard anodised in gold or grey colours, ceramic, Dupont Teflon coating, stainless steel, Xylan non-stick coating and polished aluminium.
The endless selection of electrical and electronic appliances from Asia is clearly a formidable force in promoting the quality of life for modern consumers - and therefore business for traders.
