It used to be an extravagance to have in-car AV systems, but that is now a thing of the past thanks to Apollo Worldwide Ltd's portable, go-anywhere, view-anywhere tablet DVD players.

"The advantage of the tablet DVD player over permanent screens is you can use it in different cars and also as a personal media device in the home," explains marketing manager Evon Chow. "It's all part of our mission to offer products to consumers so they can enjoy them no matter where they are."

She claims Apollo products are compact, feature-rich and reasonably priced, befitting a vertically-integrated group of companies with more than 14 years' experience.

During that time, Apollo has evolved from an LCD game manufacturer into a specialist in the design and manufacture of a variety of high-end AV products, including all-in-one portable multimedia DVD players.

The company produces on an OEM/ODM basis and designs, manufactures and distributes tablet DVD players under its own NextBase brand name.

"As a pioneer in the tablet DVD player market we have filed a series of patents that have helped us earn recognition as a leading producer of DVD products," claims Chow.

She adds this recognition has also allowed the company to quickly establish a global network of NextBase distributors, while its European office monitors consumer trends and provides prompt customer service.

Chow explains how Apollo relies on innovative design and R&D to maintain a leading position in its niche market. "Consumers nowadays are looking for handy, user-friendly products with a cool design finish and excellent quality," she maintains.

In addition to R&D centres on the mainland and in Taiwan, Apollo has built strategic partnerships with leading DVD technology developers such as Philips, Hitachi, Sanyo, Sunplus, Sony, Microsoft, Broadcom and Dolby Labs. "We have ISO 9000 certification, and are a designated Grade A RoHs supplier," Chow adds.

These qualifications help Apollo weather increasingly shorter product lifecycles, together with quality-focused processes that shorten development and production lead times.

"We are a nimble company that continually looks for ways to satisfy our partner and consumer needs," stresses Chow, noting that an in-house web master ensures the latest product information and product launches are promptly posted on the company's website.

She says Apollo places emphasis on mechanical, electronic and software design. "All our new design products undergo stringent field testing before we proceed to full production," Chow explains, adding that incoming components and materials are also tested rigorously.

Apollo plans to launch a new series of compact high-speed (200km/hr) portable DVB-T TVs with a Digital DVB-T tuner, USB port and a rechargeable battery. "The system is so small and light you can hardly imagine it incorporates a 3.6-inch high resolution TFT screen," Chow says.

The company's NextBase DVD players have also been developed to be viewed in all light conditions, as well as offering a wide viewing angle. "This is especially welcome if the player is being used in a car during daylight," she observes.

The dual-screen portable DVD system enables multiple viewers to watch two different movies at the same time, and there is also a built-in anti-shock system to ensure skip-free viewing.

Chow adds that while most DVD players are powered by a lithium battery, Apollo's new products feature an ordinary AA rechargeable battery that solves the problem of outdoor power supply.

They are also manufactured with feature-rich functions such as a USB and card reader slot that can read the DivX format and play pre-recorded CDs, CDRs and CDRs containing MP3-format files.

Apollo manufactures at a self-sufficient production plant in Jiangmen in Guangdong Province on the Chinese mainland." Our main markets are the US, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East," reveals Chow, adding that minimum orders of 500 units are delivered 30 days following order confirmation.

"We are confident that we can continue to develop exciting and innovative products that will meet the needs of consumers in these markets as well as other areas."
