From fancy fans to handy hair-dryers, Hong Kong manufacturers supply buyers worldwide with a vast array of electrical and home appliances that combine stylish form with quality efficiency and offer a range of innovative multifunctions - truly handy home comforts.
For example, South Asia Int'l (HK) Ltd offers 27 items including kitchen and home appliances and health, personal and beauty care electrical goods.
This ISO 9001-certified, 37-year-veteran manufacturer offers lines ranging from juicers, coffee makers and bag-free cyclonic vacuum cleaners to nanometer ionic air purifiers and humidifiers. Production takes place at a 108,000-square-metre, 8,000-worker factory in Dongguan on the Chinese mainland.
"Our most popular products are water filtration vacuum cleaners and 3-in-1 espresso, cappuccino and drip coffee makers," explains marketing executive Sarah Ng.
The company offers other innovative products, including a 23 kilopascals (kPa) suction power Vortex Water Filtration Vacuum Cleaner, which is ideal for wet or dry use and utilises water rather than a bag for efficient dirt and dust filtration.
Ng says the company produces under its popular SAI brand, and also accepts ODM and OEM orders; the latter accounts for some 30% of business.
"Some new products this year include a mini chopper and a dry steam cleaning system," she adds, noting that minimum orders of 1,000-4,000 pieces are delivered 45-60 days after order confirmation.
"The US is our biggest market with 40%, followed by Europe with 30%," says Ng. "South Asia is also an important destination, and we have started to export to Russia."
Europe and the US are also major markets for 24-year-old manufacturer, Firmstar Household Appliances Ltd. "They account for 60% and 35% respectively of our business, while Asia is also an important outlet," says general manager Sophie Ho.
Firmstar manufactures tower fans, heaters, air-conditioners, dehumidifiers, air purifiers, portable coolers and warmers, wine cellars and barbeque gas grills on an OEM basis at a 1,000-worker joint venture factory in Zhongshan on the mainland.
"Our wide series of tower fans and mobile air-conditioners are particularly popular, and we create new designs every year," Ho claims, adding that Firmstar's products are available on an OEM basis or under the Firmstar brand.
The JH-AW Shower Base Air Purifier has a water tank in its base. "This model removes dust and impurities using water to filter out the dirt," says Ho. "Also, oil-based scents can be added to the water tank to achieve an aromatherapy function."
FOB Chinese mainland unit prices for Firmstar air-conditioner products range from US$7-20 for minimum orders of one FEU delivered 30-60 days after order confirmation.
Fans are also a major line for 14-year-old Waon Development Ltd, which also manufactures heaters and exhaust fans at its 87,000-square-metre, 6,500-worker mainland factory in Shenzhen.
"We have more than 100 lines, with fans and heaters accounting for 50% and 30% of our business respectively," notes sales representative Angie Wong. "We introduce more than 50 new designs each year, depending on customer demand."
Some 60% of the company's 840,000-unit monthly output is OEM orders, 30% ODM and 10% its own Airmate brand, says Wong, who claims that business is increasing for this ISO 9001-certified company despite tough competition. "We stay ahead by adding new and better functions such as speed controls, timers, ionisers and LCDs," she explains.
FOB Hong Kong unit prices range from US$9 for a stand fan to US$25 for a model that includes added functions of ioniser, LCD, eight-speed air control and timer. Minimum orders of 1,000 pieces are delivered 45-60 days after order confirmation.
Speedy delivery is also important for Chung Mei Industries Ltd, which specialises in air treatment products, kitchen aids and personal care products.
The 40-year-old, ISO 9001-certified veteran company produces fan heaters, oil heaters, humidifiers, towel warmers, mini fridges and small electrical kitchen items at its 2,000-worker, 500,000-square-foot factory in Dongguan.
"We are particularly innovative and strong in our wide range of air treatment products, with new product designs in oil-filled radiators, towel warmers and humidifiers," explains chief executive officer Sebastian Man.
"Other best sellers include fan heaters, kettles and ice-cream makers," he notes, adding that design is particularly important whatever the product. "Slim products are popular, as well as the classic/retro look.
"A few years ago," he asserts, "the trend was for multicolours, but it has now reverted to the ever-popular white and black with just a few additional colours. White takes the lion's share."
FOB Hong Kong or Chinese mainland unit prices range from about US$5 for small personal care items, such as hair crimpers or hair dryers, to more than US$50 for high-end chrome towel rails.
Minimum order size is one TEU delivered, on average, 45 days after order confirmation to major markets including the US, Europe and Australia. "We have also started shipping to Asia," says Man.
With such a wide range of items, Hong Kong manufacturers cater to all levels of demand, offering value-for-money, stylish, quality products to keep office and home environments comfortable and make light work of kitchen tasks.
