Technical Crystal Ltd's quartz crystal, oscillator, SAW and ceramic components frequently bear TIC or Tecko brand names.

A SIGNIFICANT segment of Hong Kong's electronics industry is devoted to crystal components, for which the suppliers enjoy a reputation for competitive pricing and high quality. Although most components factories are located on the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong remains the hub for sales and marketing activities.

Technical Crystal Ltd, an enterprise founded in 1989, offers quartz crystal, oscillators, SAW items and ceramic products. Leading customers are from Europe, the US and Hong Kong.

"Technical Crystal is known for excellent quality and follow-up service. Some customers are long standing, and we market to new clients at electronics fairs in Hong Kong and Munich, "says assistant sales manager Ivan Wai.

Using raw materials from the Chinese mainland, South Korea and Japan, the company operates ISO 9002-certified mainland factories in Dongguan and Shanghai. Sales and marketing are based in Hong Kong. Shipments leave 1-4 weeks after order confirmation.

"We are also happy to manufacture to customers' specifications, although this may take longer, depending on requirements. There is no minimum order. Our prices are very competitive and depend on many factors. We can gladly tell more when better informed about specific requirements," says Wai.

After nearly 25 years in the electronics business, Interquip Ltd is strategically placed to understand customers' needs.

"Competing in this business means being very flexible, especially on services and pricing. Of course, quality must be assured at all times. Our three factories on the Chinese mainland all have ISO certification," says sales administrator Rick Vun.

Interquip's 600 mainland workers use raw materials predominantly from the mainland, South Korea and Japan. Total monthly output reaches five million units, including Interquip-brand quartz crystals and clock oscillators. Minimum order is 2,000 pieces.

"We ship within four weeks of order confirmation, although some high-precision devices do need more lead time. We gladly tailor-make to customers' specifications, which may affect shipment time," says Vun.

Abundance Enterprise Co, a producer of quartz components for 13 years, has a range of SMD crystals, SMD oscillators, ceramic components, SAW components and dielectric components.

The company's sales and marketing teams are based in Hong Kong while 1,200 workers produce at ISO 9002-certified factories in the mainland's Hubei, Zhejiang and Guangdong Provinces.

"Our customers are global. Sales are strong in Europe where we supply components for everything from toys to top-end computers. We have our own AEC brand and gladly handle special requirements as quickly as possible. This flexibility enables us to continue serving customers for many years," says director Henkie Lam.

Minimum order is 500-1,000 pieces for shipment 2-3 weeks after order confirmation.

"Our prices are always very competitive, yet we put quality first. We can supply prices once we have more details on special factors and quantities," says Lam.

Eighteen-year-old Weltronics Component Ltd produces 8-10 million components per month.

"Traditionally, most of our sales are to Hong Kong companies, but we increasingly sell overseas. Our service and delivery are very good and flexible. For example, we seldom ask for minimum-order requirements unless for a tailor-made component," says product manager Suzie So.

Weltronics has an ISO 9002-certified factory employing 750 workers on the mainland and using raw materials from there and Japan. The company offers a wide range of thru-hold type quartz crystals, SMD quartz crystals and oscillators for shipment 4-6 weeks after order confirmation.

Chequers Electronic (China) Ltd also has a wealth of experience. "Our company began in 1988 and has retained many customers for more than 10 years through high quality, competitive pricing, and great service," says senior sales manager Tony Tang.

The company specializes in quartz crystals, ceramic resonators and ceramic filters, with combined monthly output exceeding 30 million units.

"We export to the US, Europe and Asia. Shipment is guaranteed within four weeks of order confirmation, although we try for even faster delivery when possible," says Tang.

Chequers uses raw materials from Japan, South Korea and the Chinese mainland at its ISO 9002-certified factory in Hubei Province. It makes a standard product range or specific components on request. Minimum order is 1,000 units.
